The goal of any football player is to maximize his abilities to earn contracts that can secure him generational wealth. Los Angeles Chargers’ Rashawn Slater has been working hard for the past four seasons to be in line to earn one such paycheck.

In his rookie season, the former Northwestern star became a Pro Bowler and made it to the 2nd Team All-Pro. The Chargers were assured that their first round investment was paying off well.

In his sophomore year, he tore his biceps tendon, causing him to miss much of the season. After returning the following year, he played in all 17 games. More impressively, he played 100% of the team’s offensive snaps.

Last season, he missed a couple of games, but otherwise was again that steady presence on the left, keeping Justin Herbert safe. Now, the Chargers are rewarding him for his excellent and consistent play.

Chargers and left tackle Rashawn Slater reached agreement today on a four-year, $114 million contract extension that includes a record $92 million guaranteed and now makes him the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history.

This new extension will kick in soon, and the Texas native will earn $28.5 million a year. It should be a time when he and his family celebrate as they are about to watch millions flow into his bank account starting soon. However, his ex-wife will not be a part of those celebrations.

Rashawn Slater divorced Stassney Brown weeks before contract extension

Throughout the journey mentioned above, Stassney Brown was a pillar of support for the 26-year-old left tackle. She was there when he excelled in college and was also there when he was sidelined with his season-ending injury.

Now, she is no longer a part of his life after unconfirmed reports suggest Rashawn Slater and his wife divorced a few weeks ago. It was touted as one of the reasons for the delay in his contract extension.

By that logic, it seems as if the left tackle and the Chargers waited until his personal life crisis was sorted. This also means that Stassney Brown will not see a penny from that $114 million contract.

She has reverted to her original surname after using ‘Slater’ for the duration of their marriage. Rashawn Slater has seemingly removed every picture of her’s from his socials. Most notably, Stassney Brown was the only person missing from the family portrait when the tackle signed his extension.

This brings an end to their marriage, that lasted three years. They were married in March 2022, after ending his prolific rookie season. Now he will be focused on helping head coach Jim Harbaugh execute stage 2 of his plan.

Rashawn Slater’s extension secures Justin Herbert’s blindside

Jim Harbaugh was courted to become the next head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers to change its culture. Many expected his signature traits from both his time with the San Francisco 49ers. Also, the Michigan Wolverines football program is to follow.

The plan was simple: build a run-first attack surrounded by the best offensive linemen, a stout defense that sets its tone from the tackles up front, and use the quarterback and secondary to inflict additional damage.

They will get a chance to fully activate the first part of that scheme, but in drafting Joe Alt and signing Rashawn Slater to an extension, they are building a stout offensive line. Not only will this enable their run game to improve, but it will also help to keep Justin Herbert upright.

A quarterback can only do so much if defenders keep sacking him. Securing both ends is the first step towards success. The Chargers might surprise teams in the upcoming season, but having Slater and Alt on the edge is the perfect building block for a Super Bowl run in the future.
