- Caitlin Clark and WNBA players are negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement with a March 10 deadline.
- Charles Barkley advised players to be cautious in their negotiations to avoid overplaying their hand.
- A strike is a possibility if the WNBA does not improve its proposal, according to union representatives.
With every passing day, Caitlin Clark and her peers are waiting to see if their union and the WNBA come to an agreement over the next collective bargaining agreement.
They have a golden opportunity to get a deal that will enable them to get what they deserve economically. However, the process has dragged on too long, and now, after handing them a sweetener, the league wants the union to agree to its terms by March 10th.
If they do not put pen to paper, the league has indicated that the 2026 schedule could be compromised. They have to get two expansion teams on board with the expansion draft, then go through free agency, the 2026 WNBA Draft on April 13th, and then start training camp.
In recent days, there has been turmoil within the union. Once that was hashed out, the union released a statement pointing out how the WNBA has been trying to divide players. Eventually, they rejected the league’s latest CBA proposal.
They need to be very careful, they are walking on thin ice right now… I wish they get as much money as possible, I wish them nothing but the best, but you have to really be careful overplaying your hand… You try to make the best deal possible in the moment, and keep growing.

This four-month-old message from the Hall of Famer resurfaced, where Charles Barkley reiterated how it is important for the WNBA players to accept what is best and move on. Otherwise, they would be the losers with these strikes.
Caitlin Clark and peers could go on strike if WNBA does not relent
As of now, the WNBA’s latest proposal has been rejected by the union, after several players labeled it as not being good enough to accept. However, the league has tried to place the ball in the players’ court, but it seems those athletes are not relenting.
A strike is definitely on the table. We’re negotiating for the best deal possible… We have the strike authorization vote ready… Do we wanna do it? No, we don’t. But if we have to, we will.
Breanna Stewart said on NBA Today
The union Vice President made it clear that even though the league wants to play a different game and try to portray the players as being divided on a strike, Stewart and her peers are willing to go the extra mile if they are forced to do so.

It seems Caitlin Clark and her fellow athletes might have to wait and see what the WNBA wants to do. If they do offer a better proposal between now and the March 10th deadline, there will not be a need to hold a strike this season.
Charles Barkley’s TNT Sports to cover Caitlin Clark and USA Basketball
Until the WNBA CBA is hashed out, Caitlin Clark and some of her fellow compatriots will be taking part in the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers to be held in Puerto Rico, starting next week.

Earlier, fans had to make do with a few highlights from such international events, as usually, networks strike a deal whenever a major tournament, such as the Olympics, is in question. That would have been the case when Clark and her USA Basketball teammates would play in these qualifiers, as well as the FIBA World Cup, which is set to be held in September later this year.
Now, Charles Barkley’s TNT Sports struck a deal with FIBA, where they will be the official broadcaster of these upcoming games in the United States. That means fans can tune in to TNT, truTV, and HBO Max to catch Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese make their senior USA Basketball debuts.
