On Tuesday night, Charles Barkley urged the Denver Nuggets to stop wasting Nikola Jokic's 'prime' MVP seasons amidst team's struggles.
Charles Barkley called for Denver Nuggets to find help for Nikola Jokic as he continues his MVP Campaign
Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic has been playing some of the best basketball of his career this season. Despite his stellar performances, the Nuggets have been inconsistent, sitting at 11-8 and holding the eighth spot in the Western Conference. This has raised concerns about their ability to capitalize on Jokic’s prime years.
During Tuesday’s game against the Golden State Warriors, NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley voiced his frustration with Denver’s management. The Chuckster criticized the organization for failing to strengthen the roster around Nikola Jokic, pointing to the team’s weakened bench as a major issue.

Charles Barkley’s comments reflect the growing sentiment that Jokic’s MVP-caliber performances could go to waste if Denver doesn’t make significant roster improvements. The former Finals MVP has been averaging career highs in points (30.1), assists (10.4), and three-point shooting percentage (52.2%) while also grabbing 13 rebounds per game.
Despite his individual brilliance, Nikola Jokic has had limited support as key players like Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. struggle to find their form this season. To expound their troubles, their bench has been significantly worse after losing key pieces like Bruce Brown and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope during the offseason over the last couple of seasons.
Nikola Jokic establishes MVP campaign with signature win over Warriors
Nikola Jokic further cemented his MVP credentials with a standout performance against the struggling Golden State Warriors on Tuesday. The Nuggets secured a dramatic 119-115 comeback victory, thanks in large part to Jokic’s 38-point, 10-rebound, and 6-assist effort. He scored 15 of his 38 points in the fourth quarter, showcasing his ability to deliver in clutch moments.
The win marked a crucial step for the Nuggets as they aim to regain their championship form. Nikola Jokic remains the frontrunner on the NBA MVP ladder, leading a group of elite players, including Jayson Tatum, Anthony Davis, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, in a stacked MVP race.
Despite the positive outcome against Golden State, the Nuggets must address their shortcomings if they hope to compete with the league’s elite teams. Murray’s and Porter’s struggles, combined with the bench’s lack of production, make it clear that Denver’s current roster construction may not be sufficient to sustain another deep playoff run.
As the trade deadline approaches, Nuggets GM Calvin Booth will have some tough decisions to make to ensure that the team is able to capitalize on Nikola Jokic’s all-time great prime.
