Charles Barkley asking ‘reckless’ Ja Morant to quit dunking has fans puzzled: “These guys never have a good take”

Ja Morant and Charles Barkley

The Memphis Grizzlies had a difficult 2023 season because of numerous injuries to players on the club. Most importantly, their star man, Ja Morant, also sat out most of the 2023-24 NBA season due to injury and suspension, resulting in a poor finish. Morant and other Grizzlies stars have managed to stay fit and are up and running in the NBA this 2024-25 season.

Ja Morant’s return to action is undoubtedly beneficial. He has recovered well for the Grizzlies in 2024. The 25-year-old scoring guard has missed 18 games so far this season. He may have been forced to miss these games due to his aggressive style of play on the court. At least, former NBA player Charles Barkley appears to think so.

“My only concern with him is he’s a little too reckless for me. He can’t be running into them big bodies like that because he gonna get hurt. … He gotta quit trying to dunk on people.”

Charles Barkley said on TNT

However, Barkley’s words did not go down well with the NBA community. This is because many fans tune in to watch Morant’s aggressive style of play and his massive dunking ability. Morant has also been nicknamed ‘Air-Ja’ due to his immense aerial ability in the sport. Interestingly, Morant once claimed that he ‘would stop dunking,’ agreeing with Barkley’s words.

However, the six-year veteran is still dominating his opponents with dunks. After he dunked on San Antonio Spurs player Victor Wembanyama on a play that didn’t count, he recently became famous on social media. Throughout his basketball career, Morant has always played aggressively. Therefore, it could take some time to break his dunking propensity against opponents.

Fans question Charles Barkley’s recent take on Grizzlies star Ja Morant

A faction of NBA fans has grown tired of the NBA on TNT shows, led by Kenny Smith, Shaquille O’Neal, and Charles Barkley. This is especially true of their takes on teams and other stars recently. Fans have always pinpointed that the crew is always dissing the Los Angeles Lakers and have less time to appreciate other things about the league. Most recently, Barkley said that Ja Morant ‘should stop dunking.’

This left many fans puzzled. One fan was quick to let out his opinion on social media app, X.

Real conversations need to be had about the TNT group, sure they are entertaining because they are funny, but man do these guys never have a good take and clearly never watch the games.

This showcases the views that fans are currently having regarding the NBA on TNT Shows lately. Aside from this, regarding Morant, the Grizzlies star’s performance is in line with his career norms. Morant is shooting 45.0% from the field and 31.4% from three-point range, averaging 21.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. All eyes will be on him to deliver for his side consistently going forward into the season.
