“That run is over!” Charles Barkley gets REAL about Stephen Curry and Warriors dynasty

Charles Barkley gets real about Stephen Curry and Golden State Warriors dynasty's chances to contend for NBA title next year

One of the original pieces of the Golden State Warriors dynasty that won four NBA titles in 10 seasons has now left for another team. But they still have a few more years before the trio of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Steve Kerr potentially call it quits.

Knowing that, they have been active in the off-season to fortify their roster to take a few more shots at the NBA title. But Hall of Famer and analyst Charles Barkley thinks otherwise.

The former league MVP was one of the participants at the American Century Championship held at the Edgewood Tahoe Resort. NBC Sports Bay Area reporter Ali Thanawalla asked him about the Warriors chances this season.

They got a mediocre team. They were mediocre last year. They're going to be even more mediocre next year.
Charles Barkley replied

Charles Barkley added this when Thanawalla asked who the Warriors need to sign;

They're just all past their prime, so that run is over.
Charles Barkley said

With the second part, Barkley suggests that the aging duo of Curry and Green are past their prime. So, any new additions wouldn’t make a difference.

He could have a point there. Last season, whenever Stephen Curry was out with an injury, the Golden State Warriors struggled. They could not cover for the deficit in scoring. His absence hurt more than the long list of games Draymond Green did not play in.

Had the Warriors signed Paul George, maybe the analyst’s opinion could have been different. But with the current roster, he feels it is not going to be easy. Especially with most of the Western Conference contenders improving.

Charles Barkley reiterates retirement stance

At the golf event, Barkley was with the commentators speaking with CNBC. He was asked if his status about retiring was still legitimate, as people’s decisions can turn around if there is that much money on the table.

I wouldn’t feel comfortable going to work for another network. At this age, to go and start over, I don't know if I wanna do that. I've been on television for 24 years. If I don't have enough money by now, I'm the biggest loser in the world.
Charles Barkley said

That reiterates his stance on retiring after next season. He did say that if TNT are able to get even a small deal out of the NBA, it would be good.

But the recent news has confirmed that the league has accepted the packages offered by NBC and Amazon Prime. That leaves TNT with nothing. Therefore, Charles Barkley will most likely retire from television, even if a massive offer comes his way.

His appearance at the golf tournament suggests the 61-year-old would like to enjoy life. He has made enough money for himself and his family. So, he would prefer to spend time with them, instead of slogging out on another network.
