Former NBA star and MVP Charles Barkley is known for being vocal and not shying away from his opinions, even if controversial. And this time, bearing the brunt of his words were fans of the Charlotte Hornets and the Washington Wizards. It was their third clash of the 2025-26 campaign with the Hornets coming out on top in their previous two matchups.
On Saturday night, the Hornets made it three wins in a row over the Wizards. The Hornets prevented a fourth quarter comeback by the Wizards and recorded a 119-115 victory at the Spectrum Center and improved their record to 18-28 as they sit at 12th place in the Eastern Conference standings. Meanwhile, the Wizards, who are still without their recently acquired star Trae Young, have lost nine consecutive games and find themselves at the bottom of the standings.
Both franchises have faced criticism over the years for being poorly managed and for not showing signs of growth as a club. The last time the Hornets made it to the playoffs was 10 years ago in 2016, which is the longest drought in the NBA at the moment, while the Wizards’ last playoff appearance was in 2021.
As both clubs continue to struggle this season, Charles Barkley, who is known for his funny nature, dropped a hilarious take for the fans attending the match at the Spectrum Center during the Inside the NBA broadcast.
If you went to this game, you had nothing to do today.

The rest of the crew of Ernie Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kenny Smith could not contain their laughter after Barkley’s comments. However, in the end, it turned out to be a competitive and a well fought match between two struggling sides.
It was good to see the Inside the NBA show back after making just four appearances in the last three months on ESPN. However, the schedule is expected to increase as the season progresses and approaches the playoffs.
NBA fans react to Charles Barkley’s comments on the Wizards-Hornets game
These are the types of comments on the show that makes it one of the most loved and popular shows. The show has earned 19 Sports Emmy Awards over its history. After Barkley’s comments went viral, the fans were quick to give out their opinions across social media.
Can Chuck say anything positive about small market teams?

Pretty funny thing to say because not only was this a pretty good game but both teams played really well. Fans in attendance got a close game at the end and witnessed a Wizards comeback. I'd say they got their money's worth lol

While some found Barkley’s comments hilarious and agreed with him, some felt the comments were unnecessary as it turned out to be a good match.
Charles Barkley criticizes ESPN over scheduling
Last season, it was thought that the Inside the NBA show had come to an end after TNT decided not to pour billions into the NBA. But to everyone’s delight, they reached an agreement with ESPN to continue broadcasting the show through the latter’s network.
However, it was later revealed that Inside the NBA will first start with a 30-minute run. That is down from the usual 50-minute stretch they used to enjoy on TNT.

Barkley was unhappy with the scheduling and criticized ESPN on The Dan Patrick Show and said they have been on ESPN only 4 times in 3 months.
When I was talking about working all the time, I’m not going to do all these damn shows. I’m not going to be on ESPN 1, 2, 3, Deportes, Nacho, Echo, whatever they call it. I’m not going to be doing all that. But I wish we’d have been on more during the first half of the season.
Charles Barkley says the Inside the NBA crew isn’t happy with their lack of appearances on ESPN:

With the NFL season coming to an end and the NBA approaching the postseason, the fans will be expecting to see a lot more of Barkley and his crew.
