Charles Barkley thrashed online for Lakers slander
If there’s one thing that is for certain about Charles Barkley, it’s his consistent hate for the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers pulled off one of the biggest heists by landing Luka Doncic in exchange for Anthony Davis. However, Barkley isn’t ready to give the Lakers their due yet. More importantly, the Chuckster isn’t ready to even consider the Lakers a threat in the West.
During Thursday’s Inside the NBA show, the Inside crew reacted to the Lakers’ demolition derby over the Golden State Warriors in the first half of their matchup. Even though the Lakers looked like a much superior side with improvements across the roster, Charles Barkley had his reservations about their ability to be the team that comes out of the Western Conference.
I’m not gonna overreact to them beating the Golden State Warriors… The Lakers are not contenders. Y’all can tweet and whatever y’all want to; the Lakers are mediocre.
Charles Barkley said on TNT
Even though the Lakers are not tier 1 contenders at the moment, as Barkley suggests, the team has certainly turned a corner. Even before the Lakers had traded for Luka Doncic, their roster had found something, resulting in their continued success. Anthony Davis has now left the team, and Doncic has not made his debut. Nevertheless, the Lakers have continued their success, winning 4 games in a row.

In their last 10 games, the Lakers are now 8-2. Contrary to Charles Barkley’s tirades about the team, they seem to be playing at a level far above mediocre. As Ernie Johnson pointed out on the Inside the NBA show, after Thursday’s thumping win over Golden State, the Lakers are now 30-19, 11 games above .500. Given their success, it’s reasonable to see why viewers weren’t fans of Chuck’s rant.
Fans left fuming after Charles Barkley’ dismisses Lakers
Charles Barkley’s dismissiveness of the Lakers was a sentiment that wasn’t necessarily shared by NBA fans. The Lakers are just a game behind the Houston Rockets for the 4th seed and 1.5 games behind the Denver Nuggets for the 3rd spot. The Chuckster still resorting to calling the Lakers mediocre triggered fans online, who took to social media to call out the TNT star.
This dude is a loser, glad the crew is calling him out

you don’t have to think the lakers are contenders to not be genuinely mad that they’re playing well
— Hardwood Junkies (@hardwoodjunkies) February 7, 2025
they just ran the celtics, knicks, and clippers out of the gym and bro wants to focus on the warriors
he’s terrible for basketball and we’ll all be better off when he retires
Mediocre take from a mediocre legend

As it stands, the Lakers are certainly one of the most formidable teams in the league, and they have yet to add their premier offseason acquisitions of Luka Doncic and Mark Williams. With Doncic earmarked to make his Lakers debut within the week, it remains to be seen if Barkley will regret his comments or not.
