Charles Leclerc not satisfied with his performance in Portimao
Charles Leclerc
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc finished a respectable sixth in the recently concluded Portuguese Grand Prix. Starting from P8 on the medium tyre, Leclerc gained only two spots, much less than he would’ve liked.
He was the only driver outside of the Red Bull and Mercedes foursome to make it through Q2 on the medium tyres, a very bold move by the Ferrari crew.
“We’ve been struggling a lot on the medium with both cars, so we need to understand this, because that put us on the back foot today unfortunately,” said Leclerc post race.
“Apart from that, on the hard [tyre] we were quite competitive. Driving-wise, it’s definitely the session in which I’ve been driving the best this weekend; I’ve been struggling a lot in free practice, qualifying and finally I managed to do some good laps during the race. So personally, quite happy but I cannot be satisfied with P6 and we need to keep working to understand what happened with the medium tyres.”
‘Lando is doing a great job’: Charles Leclerc
Leclerc is just 4 points shy of Valtteri Bottas and trails McLaren’s Lando Norris by 9 points who is P3 in the driver’s standings. The man from Monte Carlo spoke about Norris and said that he is doing great in the McLaren. Ferrari and McLaren are in the race for P3.
He said: “For now they are a bit ahead of us so we need to catch up, we need to keep working. Lando is doing a great job – he hasn’t done any mistakes so far, and this pays off. We need to try and do the same thing now.”
The F1 contingent will now move to Barcelona for the Spanish Grand Prix which will be held this weekend. The weekend in Catalunya will be the 4th Round of the World Championships.
