Charles Oliveira and Max Holloway will clash for the iconic BMF title in the main event of UFC 326. The anticipation surrounding this matchup is enormous, fueled by their shared history, fan popularity, and action-packed fighting styles. For the former lightweight champion, this fight represents a chance to avenge his earlier loss to Holloway.

Max Holloway and Oliveira first fought at UFC Fight Night 74 in August 2015. At the time, Holloway was 23 years old, while Oliveira entered the bout as a dangerous submission specialist. The fight ended abruptly when Oliveira suffered a neck and esophagus injury, forcing a first-round TKO victory for the Hawaiian star.

Years later, both fighters transformed dramatically, capturing championships and becoming two of the promotion’s most respected veterans. In a recent interview, Oliveira stated he has evolved mentally and technically, promising to showcase improvements this time.

I’m Charles of MMA. I’m a complete guy. At that time, I was just a boy. Today, I’m a lion among lions, so it’s completely different fight from the other

Charles Oliveira has had one of the most remarkable comeback stories ever witnessed inside the UFC octagon. Early in his promotional run, Oliveira suffered multiple setbacks and submission losses that raised doubts about his championship ceiling. Instead of fading away, the Brazilian rebuilt himself, sharpening his striking while refining an already dangerous submission arsenal.

That evolution culminated in a dominant run through the lightweight division, finishing elite contenders to capture undisputed gold. Although his title reign proved brief, it delivered nonstop action, highlight finishes, and unforgettable performances for fans. ‘Do Bronx’ eventually lost the championship to Islam Makhachev, who overwhelmed him with pressure and grappling control.

Since that defeat, Oliveira has experienced inconsistency, including a brutal knockout loss to Ilia Topuria in June 2025. However, last year at UFC Rio, the Brazilian decided to come back, just three months after getting knocked out.

Many experts raised questions about the fighter’s well-being; however, Oliveira was confident and managed to beat Mateusz Gamrot via submission. Oliveira has the most number of submissions in the history of UFC with 17, and against Holloway, this could be a real threat.

At the age of 36, this is one of the last chances for Oliveira to win the undisputed UFC belt and maintain his popularity. However, going into UFC 326, the odds are against the Brazilian superstar, but fans are definitely expecting a massive upset from Oliveira.

Max Holloway plans to trick Charles Oliveira at UFC 326

Max Holloway is one of the most popular and entertaining fighters on the entire UFC roster. In his most recent appearance, ‘Blessed’ defeated Dustin Poirier to successfully defend the symbolic BMF championship and avenge an earlier defeat. That victory allowed Holloway to rebound strongly after suffering a knockout loss to Ilia Topuria while pursuing the featherweight gold.

At UFC 300, Holloway produced a viral moment by knocking out Justin Gaethje in the final seconds. Pointing to the canvas before trading punches, Holloway created an unforgettable highlight he now hopes to replicate against Charles Oliveira.

I like the way you think bro. Make him think we’re in a 3 round fight, point in there and then he does it.

Holloway is well known for keeping the fight on the feet and dismantling his opponents as the rounds go on. However, his wrestling and takedown defense haven’t been tested in a long time, and Oliveira will definitely take advantage of it. It will be interesting to see who among these veterans will take home the win following the long-anticipated rematch.
