In his last UFC fight, Charles Oliveira suffered a brutal knockout loss to Ilia Topuria that shocked fans across the MMA world. While many assumed the Brazilian would take a long break from competition, Oliveira has already confirmed his return with a new fight. ‘Do Bronx’ is set to compete at the upcoming UFC Brazil event, but recently voiced frustration with the current lightweight division.

The UFC lightweight division has long been considered the most competitive weight class on the roster, and that reputation remains unchanged today. Top contenders are eager for a title shot and frequently engage in heated online disputes, trying to secure big fights. Oliveira disapproves of this approach and recently called out the division’s middle order, revealing that none of them accepted a fight with him.

None of them would come here to fight in Brazil… I was offered names and they didn’t even want it. When you release this clip, these guys will tweet ‘Coward! I wanted it, he didn’t want it’. But it’s a lie… They poke around, talk sh*t from the other side.

Oliveira revealed that Arman Tsarukyan is holding out for a title shot while spending time trolling Ilia Topuria on social media. He explained that Justin Gaethje only seeks title opportunities and refuses to waste his remaining fights without championship stakes on the line. The Brazilian added that Max Holloway was sidelined with a broken hand, Dustin Poirier was retired, and Dan Hooker declined.

[Dan Hooker] is also just talking, for a long time… a guy who speaks a lot of nonsense on the internet but when he’s called, he doesn’t go.

Hooker has not competed since his victory over Mateusz Gamrot at UFC 305 last year, due to a lingering hand injuries. The Kiwi fighter has reportedly declined several fight offers but continues to engage in frequent trash talk with others on social media. Considering his exciting fighting style, a potential matchup between him and Charles Oliveira could have been a massive blockbuster event for fans.

Charles Oliveira explains his immediate return to fighting

Ahead of UFC 317, Charles Oliveira was highly motivated to reclaim his second lightweight title but ultimately failed miserably. Now determined to bounce back, Oliveira is set to face dangerous striker Rafael Fiziev at the upcoming UFC Rio event later this year. However, fans remain concerned about Oliveira’s recovery, fearing his career trajectory could mirror the decline experienced by Tony Ferguson.

The matchup with Fiziev will serve as a crucial test to determine whether Oliveira can still compete among the lightweight division’s elite. During his latest interview, ‘Do Bronx’ talked about his personal reasons for fighting in his home country.

I made the request to Hunter and the UFC to fight in Brazil, in front of my family, in front of my people. That would be something magical. And thank God, it’s happening. I’m genuinely happy and focused. My mindset is bulletproof. And when I’m happy, when I’m feeling bold, things just flow naturally. Last night, when I got the message saying everything’s confirmed: main event [at UFC Rio].

Fiziev’s last UFC appearance saw him defeat Ignacio Bahamondes at UFC Baku, earning a memorable win in front of his supportive home crowd. Before that, he battled former BMF champion Justin Gaethje in a brutal three-round war, showcasing his toughness and striking skills. Currently ranked #10 in the lightweight division, Fiziev’s matchup with Oliveira could become his pathway to a future title shot.
