Oliveira has fought both Makhachev and Poirier during his time as the former lightweight champion. Hence, The Brazilian appears to be fully aware of the possible outcomes of the UFC 302 main event
Charles Oliveira recently did an interview with Full Violence where he was asked about the Makhachev vs. Poirier fight. ‘Do Bronx’ went into detail and compared the fighting style of both the fighters. In the end, Oliveira chose Makhachev to come out as the victor.
In reality, we're talking about MMA. MMA is unpredictable. You know that anything can happen, right? But, we're talking about the style game, a guy who's a puncher, who has a hard hand. who has a very nested boxing style which is Dustin Poirier against [Makhachev], who's been evolving on the feet, but his strength is wrestling, sambo. I think the fight is more on Islam's side of taking him him down, smothering him. It's complicated. But, I think Islam will stay champion.Charles Oliveira via Full Violence YouTube
Oliveira defended his belt against Dustin Poirier at UFC 269 and submitted the ‘Diamond’ in the third round. Makhachev vs. Poirier is scheduled to take place at UFC 302 at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. Other than the main event, Sean Strickland will be fighting Paulo Costa on the same card. The hype around the card is massive, especially for the lightweight championship.
