UFC fans just want the best fighters going against each other, and the promotion has the responsibility to give them that. Former champion, Charles Oliveira, is extremely eager to get back to the lightweight throne as soon as possible. With top lightweight contenders also campaigning for a title shot, the UFC faces a tough decision to finalize. As Islam Makhachev awaits his next opponent, the drama surrounding the title picture has kept the fans captivated.

Oliveira last fought Michael Chandler, securing a dominant unanimous decision victory that helped him rebound from his tough UFC 300 loss. Despite his impressive performance, the Brazilian’s title aspirations remain uncertain as no official developments regarding his championship opportunity remains foreclosed. Frustrated by the situation, Oliveira recently released a bold and intimidating video statement, making his intentions for a title shot clear.

The UFC has a lot of guys who talk a big game. I can talk because I’ve been here for almost 15 years…I want to fight during International Fight Week, Makhachev too… UFC, let’s make this happen. This is the fight everyone wants to see.

Oliveira has the skills and experience to reclaim the UFC lightweight title, but the road back won’t be easy. His world-class jiu-jitsu, improved striking, and aggressive style make him a dangerous contender. But the matchmaking process of the UFC is currently extremely unpredictable. While his record makes a good case for the fighter, things are not that simple.

Oliveira holds UFC records for most finishes and submissions, solidifying his status as one of the greatest grapplers in MMA history. After years of setbacks, he captured the lightweight title by defeating Chandler, showcasing his resilience and evolution as a complete fighter. His thrilling style, numerous records, and championship reign ensure his lasting legacy in the sport.

His short title reign included fights against Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje. Each bouts were thrilling to watch. It made him millions of new fans who were emotionally involved in his journey. However, he lost the belt against Islam Makhachev at UFC 280 in a dominant way. It seems like the ‘Do Bronx’ is desperate for his revenge against the Dagestani, but, there are some hindrances.

The lightweight drama is at an all-time high. Islam Makhachev easily submitted Renato Moicano in his last fight and confirmed his return during the highly anticipated International Fight Week. Justin Gaethje, eager for another title opportunity, has expressed his interest in being part of the event. Arman Tsarukyan, once close to securing a fight with Makhachev, must now prove himself again to earn his shot.

Amid the ongoing confusion, Charles Oliveira firmly believes he deserves the title shot and aims to seize the opportunity. He and Makhachev are known for their exciting fighting styles and were close to securing a title rematch. However, Ilia Topuria disagrees and has good reasons for his claims. In a recent tweet, he highlighted them and mocked Oliveira in the process.

Charles, it’s better if you stay quiet. You have 10 losses: 5 by knockout, 4 by submission, and 1 by decision. You are the contender, while I am the champion, the father of the entire division. I haven’t come here to ask anything. Here, I am the one in charge.

Despite his title reign, Oliveira is mocked and criticized for his early years in the UFC. Once Khabib Nurmagomedov mentioned that the Brazilian has a habit of giving up and that’s exactly what happened against Makhachev. As soon as the Brazilian found himself in a choke, he tapped immediately. Nevertheless, that doesn’t take away from his current skills and ability to bounce back.

However, it seems like Topuria is not impressed and wants the title opportunity for himself. Recent reports suggested that Makhachev has turned down the option to fight the Georgian-Spanish fighter. However, the knockout specialist is not ready to back out and is ready to pressure UFC. It will be interesting to see who the promotion decides as the next contender.
