Charles Oliveira is one of the most successful lightweights in the history of the promotion, with a massive fan base. The veteran has the most submissions in UFC and has fought some of the best fighters.  However, the former champion has remained inconsistent in his last few fights, but that has not affected his mindset.

Oliveira, in his outing, beat Michael Chandler in a convincing way to bounce back from his previous loss. Following the win, the Brazilian called out for a title, however, there were speculations about him fighting Ilia Topuria. In a recent interview, ‘Do Bronx’ shared his intentions to sign the contract, but with only one condition.

I’m looking for the title. I never run away from anyone, I never have. I’m ready to fight any of these guys. . . . If it’s for the title, why not fight Ilia Topuria? I’m looking for the title. I don’t want to fight another fight just to wait for the title, no. That doesn’t interest me.

Oliveira dismissed talk of facing Paddy Pimblett, explaining that he’s currently not entertaining such matchups in his career. He said the same stance regarding Arman Tsarukyan, who defeated him at UFC 300, not seeking a rematch right now. At 35, Oliveira’s sole ambition is reclaiming the UFC lightweight title and wearing that gold belt around his waist again.

Topuria, on the other hand, remains fixated on earning a lightweight title shot, determined to challenge Islam Makhachev. He claims the UFC guaranteed him that chance after vacating featherweight gold, refusing to consider fighting anyone else instead. This standoff between Oliveira and Topuria could spark major uncertainty and drama within the already competitive lightweight division.

Charles Oliveira vs. Islam Makhachev 2 happening?

Charles Oliveira’s reign as lightweight champion was an incredible experience for the fight fans. It was defined by his heart, constant dominance, slick submissions, and relentless forward movement that overwhelmed opponents. However, Islam Makhachev completely dismantled that reign at UFC 280 with clinical grappling, superior control, and a second-round submission finish.

The loss marked a turning point in Oliveira’s career, exposing vulnerabilities and forcing him to re-assess his path back to gold. Now, the narrative revolves around redemption for Oliveira and Makhachev’s quest to cement a legendary championship legacy. When asked about the rematch, the pound-for-pound ace also gave a positive response.

This guy is one of the most exciting fighters in our promotion. If fans want, I will give him chance.

Despite respecting Makhachev, Oliveira has repeatedly stated he’s eager and fully prepared to get revenge for UFC 280. Irrespective of his debates, Oliveira remains a beloved figure in MMA, drawing loyal support from millions of passionate fans. Still, analysts and fans alike often see his chances against the dominant Dagestani grappler as slim in a rematch.

Can Charles Oliveira become a two-time lightweight champion?

Charles Oliveira undoubtedly possesses the abilities, background, and heart needed to win the UFC lightweight title twice in the future. He is a continuous threat in any lightweight title battle because of his finishing skills, especially his risky submissions and striking in pockets. But because there are so many strong competitors in the division, Oliveira’s road to a second championship run will be extremely difficult and uncertain.

He has to go beyond stylistic barriers, particularly when facing strong wrestlers like Islam Makhachev. Oliveira’s fame and fan base might help him land important matches. However, his success and legacy as a champion ultimately depend on how well they performs in the Octagon. Oliveira has every chance to win lightweight gold once more if he changes, grows, and goes into battles ready.
