- Charles Omenihu claims the 2023 49ers team was stronger than the Eagles team that defeated the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
- He missed the Super Bowl against the 49ers due to an ACL tear but contributed significantly in the regular season.
- Omenihu praised quarterback Brock Purdy for his impressive performance during practice and his calm demeanor on the field.
Charles Omenihu went to two Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs, and he recently revealed which opponent was easier to cover. After leaving the Chiefs, Omenihu returned to the NFC.
Omenihu signed a two-year deal with the Chiefs ahead of the 2022 NFL season. He had to wait to make his debut for KC, as the NFL had suspended him for violating the personal conduct policy.
By the end of the regular season, he made 11 appearances, racking up 28 combined tackles and 7.0 sacks (the best numbers of his career). The Chiefs defeated the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC title game, securing a fourth Super Bowl appearance in five seasons.
Omenihu missed the final against the San Francisco 49ers as he was dealing with an ACL tear. The Chiefs missed his presence on the defense, allowing the Niners to score 22 points. Nevertheless, Patrick Mahomes orchestrated a 25-point game to win his third and the Chiefs’ fourth ring.
A year later, the Chiefs launched a serious bid to record a first-ever three-peat in the NFL era. After going 15-2 in the regular season, they defeated the Texans and the Bills to reach yet another Super Bowl. This time, however, the Mahomes magic fell flat as the Philadelphia Eagles claimed the Lombardi Trophy with a 40-22 victory.
Despite losing to the Eagles, Omenihu made a massive claim about the Chiefs’ two Super Bowl opponents. The veteran defensive end argued that the 2023 49ers were better than the Eagles team.
I thought we were gonna dog [the Eagles]… I thought it was gonna be a slugfest… That 49ers Super Bowl team was better than the Eagles [Super Bowl] team.

Omenihu missed a chunk of the season in order to nurse his bad ACL. Following a full recovery, he appeared in six games, starting one, recording 6 combined tackles and one forced fumble.
Charles Omenihu showered 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy with massive praise
The Niners drafted Brock Purdy with the last pick of the 2022 draft. He had little chance of seeing game time in his rookie year, buried in the depth chart behind Jimmy Garoppolo and first-round pick Trey Lance.

As the season progressed, both Jimmy G and Lance picked up injuries, presenting Purdy with the starting quarterback’s job. He led the Niners to a remarkable nine-game-winning run that included victories over the Seattle Seahawks and the Dallas Cowboys in the playoffs.
Those results set up a blockbuster tie against the Eagles in the NFC title game. Unfortunately, Purdy injured his throwing shoulder early on, and the Niners failed to recover. They lost 31-7. Despite the defeat, Purdy, who was dubbed Mr. Irrelevant, had accomplished the unthinkable. In the very next season, he played in his first Super Bowl, narrowly losing out to the Chiefs.
Omenihu was part of the 49ers that year and played in every game. He had the best seat in the house to evaluate his young signal-caller. On Speakeasy, the 28-year-old recalled how Purdy impressed everyone on the Niners staff from his first practice session.
I ain’t gonna lie, you knew Brock [Purdy] was gonna be one of them ones when he got there. He just had a quiet calm about him. He was lowkey dicing us up as the damn scout team quarterback. You could just see he ain’t just a scout team guy that’s just out there fucking off. He’s really doing his thing. He is trying to get better with those reps.

2024 was a season to forget for Purdy and the Niners. Injuries to key players had weakened them from every corner. Experts predicted the Niners to have a similar run in 2025, but they shocked everyone by reaching the NFC title game, where they lost to the Los Angeles Rams. Purdy was limited to just 9 starts due to injury. He went 7-2, completing 69.4% of his passes for 2167 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs released Omenhiu after a terrible 6-11 campaign. He later signed a one-year contract with the Commanders and is expected to play a key role in defense.
