Charlie Kirk’s legacy touched Beaver Stadium on Saturday night as third-ranked Penn State welcomed 6th-ranked Oregon for a crucial Big Ten showdown. All eyes were on projected number one picks Drew Allar and Dante Moore.

The Nittany Lions swept three non-conference teams before heading into the bye week. Wins against Nevada, FIU, and Villanova set up their first BIG clash against the Ducks of Oregon. Dan Lanning’s Ducks season started with a home win against Montana State, followed by blowout victories against Oklahoma State, Northwestern, and Oregon State.

Both undefeated teams converged at Happy Valley for an electrifying clash for conference supremacy. Staying true to the whiteout theme, fans flocked to the bleachers wearing white attire with their individual spin. One couple decided to pay tribute to the recently passed conservative activist and spokesperson, Charlie Kirk. The pair donned ‘Freedom’-embroidered white t-shirts.

Kirk died on September 10, 2025, during a debate enclave at Utah Valley University. According to eyewitness and police reports, Kirk was assassinated.

On September 12, Time Magazine reported that the authorities apprehended 22-year-old Tyler Robinson as the prime suspect in Kirk’s assassination case. Robinson was charged with “aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, and obstruction of justice.”

A costly fumble decided the outcome of the Oregon-Penn State fixture

Both Oregon and Penn State averaged at least 34 points before Saturday’s fixture. The first half ended with teams scoring 3 points each on offense.

Third quarter began in the same fashion. For the longest moment, it appeared the game would turn out to be a slugfest until 3:23.

Oregon quarterback Dante Moore handed the ball to his running back Noah Whittington, who smashed into a wall of Nittany Lions and committed a fumble. Penn State nearly returned the ball for a touchdown before going out of bounds.

The home team had the ball, but not for long. Review showed that Whittington’s right knee grazed the turf before the ball came out of his grasp. Oregon retained the ball.

Moore found Dierre Hill Jr. in the next play to score the first touchdown of the game. Three minutes into the last quarter, Moore found his other RB, Jordon Davison, who rushed 8 yards for a touchdown, extending the Ducks’ lead to fourteen points.

Penn State quarterback Drew Allar answered with a 35-yard dime to Devonte Ross inside the Oregon red zone. Ross was involved once again. With 30 ticks left until the final whistle, Allar completed a 7-yard touchdown to force overtime.

Penn State struck first in OT through Kaytron Allen. The dynamic RB scored a 4-yard TD to take the lead for the first time since the ninth minute in the first quarter. It was Moore’s turn to save his team from losing. Right before the clock struck zero, Moore found Jamari Johnson for a touchdown to play second overtime.

Oregon took the lead after Moore hit Gary Bryant Jr. for a 25-yard touchdown. The climax of the game took place when Allar threw a dart to Ducks defender Dillon Thieneman for an interception to sound the end of the game. It ended in a 30-24 win for Oregon.

The loss meant Franklin’s record against ranked opponents depreciated even further. He has lost 21 games against top 25 college football teams compared to just 4 wins. Franklin revealed that the overturned fumble return hurt his team’s morale. The win improved Oregon’s record to 5-0, while Penn State fell to 3-1.
