In his last-ever WrestleMania as an active WWE wrestler, John Cena pulled out all the stops to become a 17-time world champion. Just as he pinned Cody Rhodes in an underwhelming finish marred by a run-in by Travis Scott, ‘The Cenation Leader’ did something more. With this win, he attained the pole position on the list of WWE Superstars with the most number of world title reigns in history.
By doing so, Cena broke Ric Flair‘s long-standing record of 16 title reigns, one that many thought would forever remain unscathed. So does that bother ‘The Nature Boy’s’ daughter, Charlotte Flair? Talking to The Takedown on Sports Illustrated, she stated that records are meant to be broken. ‘The Queen’ affirmed that Cena was the right choice to surpass her legendary father and added that he couldn’t be more proud of ‘Mr. Hustle, Loyalty & Respect’.
Records are meant to be broken. I don’t wanna speak for my dad, but I think in this case I can, John was the guy to do it. And I think he couldn’t be more proud of John.

The 14-time women’s champion underscored Cena’s impact on the pro wrestling business and how much he meant to her as a performer. Now that the 48-year-old is in his seventeenth reign with the world title, is there anyone who can dare to supersede or even match his accolades? As for men, only Randy Orton seems like a realistic prospect. ‘The Viper’ has 14 world title reigns under his belt and might add a few before calling it quits.

But what if Charlotte Flair becomes the one to revive the Flair legacy once and for all? She has also won the women’s title on fourteen different occasions. The 39-year-old is just four reigns shy of upstaging ‘The Cenation Leader’. Had she beaten Tiffany Stratton at this year’s WrestleMania, Flair would’ve gotten a step closer. However, ‘The Buff Barbie’ made a spirited effort to thwart the menace of Flair.
John Cena maps out the rest of his WWE retirement tour
The John Cena farewell tour has crossed the halfway mark. Whatever he has been up to in recent months is quite polarizing, with the majority of fans criticizing the execution of his heel turn. But, at least, the man in the driver’s seat believes that his character arc has produced compelling storylines, in a statement Cena gave to the Associated Press.

Moreover, ‘The Cenation Leader’ said that he wouldn’t give away any spoilers. But he’s just getting started, quipped Cena with a smirk on his face. As things stand, the Peacemaker star is entitled to work 15 more dates for WWE. He has also confirmed that his retirement match will occur in mid-December at an unspecified venue.

WWE's full week "takeover" would start on 12/10 with community events, 12/11 Undertaker show, 12/12 Smackdown and 12/13 SNME.
Early reports suggest that the ‘Babe Ruth of WWE’ will have his wrestling swansong in his hometown of Boston on December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Also, now that Cena has already fought the likes of CM Punk and Randy Orton to bolster his hit list, the fans could see him take on a relatively younger star in his last-ever WWE match.
John Cena escaped CM Punk’s wrath at Night of Champions
Last weekend in Saudi Arabia, John Cena faced one of his greatest WWE rivals, CM Punk. It was their first singles match in 12 years. Despite tottering in their late 40s, neither man was willing to stay down. A run-in from Seth Rollins and his faction eventually resulted in the Chicagoan’s dashing of dreams.

Rollins asserted on the subsequent episode of Raw that he never actually intended to cash in his MITB contract on Cena but wanted to ensure that Punk didn’t become the Undisputed WWE Champion on his watch. ‘The Franchise’ was on the cusp of dropping his title belt to Punk, but Rollins saved the day for him.
Back in March, ‘The Visionary’ screwed Punk over inside the Elimination Chamber. It saw ‘The Voice of the Voiceless’ pass out to an STF hold from the self-proclaimed ‘Last Real Champion’. Having said that, the latter isn’t advertised for a WWE appearance before the July 18 edition of SmackDown.
