The current NASCAR Cup Series garage currently has some of the best dirt racers in the country, namely Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Chase Briscoe and more. This driver got the opportunity to race in the dirt from 2021 to 2023, in a temporary dirt track that was built at Bristol Motor Speedway.

But NASCAR decided to scrap the race and go back to racing in the Bristol pavement, making the sport once again to pavement only championship as it was from 1971 to 2020, when the sport initially stopped racing in the dirt. Joe Gibbs Racing star driver Chase Briscoe though wasn’t that happy with the change.

The No:19 TRD driver is solid dirt racer and a huge fan of the sport. Hence, he wants to be represented again in NASCAR’s premier division. In a recent interview with Always Race Day, the youngster shared his dream and explained how he always cherished the dirt racing moments, that has a huge fan following.

Yeah, absolutely. Anytime there’s been a NASCAR dirt race, I always try to make it a point to go run it. You know, I remember coming here and running the truck race a couple of years ago, and obviously, I always ran the Eldora races as well. So, yeah, I feel like even in the Cup Series, we need to have a dirt race.

Chase Briscoe told Always Race Day.

While the Bristol dirt race was a clear gimmick and something that didn’t garner the attention NASCAR expected, there is still a huge market out there for the sport tap in. Instead of temporary tracks, they should go to venues like Eldora that has the legacy and dedicated tracks. The Next-Gen cars and the current generation of drivers are good enough to produce solid dirt racer.

Chase Briscoe urges NASCAR to repave Iowa

Talking of going back to iconic tracks, Cup garage returns to Iowa last Sunday and produced a solid race where Chase Briscoe scored pole, finishing the race P2 behind winner William Byron. After the race, the TRD driver urged NASCAR to repave the track as the current surface doesn’t offer much space to move around, limiting the event to a track position game.

I wish they’d repave this place all the way to the wall, just so we could have more room to move around. This is such a track position race, with the dirty air and stuff and you’re kind of limited with where you can run.

Chase Briscoe said.

He is hopeful that when the garage come to the track for the next season’s event, the repave will be done all the way to wall and offer more than two lanes to race, reducing the dirty air affect. If the track had just the old pavement, the racing could have been much better than the product the fans got to see on Sunday.

So maybe we’ll come back next year and hopefully they’ll repave it all the way to the wall…It’s definitely really difficult to pass. You’re so limited. The racetrack’s only two or three lanes wide and you just take the guy’s air. If we had the old surface, it’d be unbelievable. As soon as we get on the old pavement, you just start spinning the tires.

Chase Briscoe added.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver is right to call NASCAR to make the change, as many in the community wasn’t impressed with how dirty air and issues with racing in traffic negatively affected the entertainment value. It would be interesting to see how the sanctioning body is going to respond to the criticism.
