Chase Daniel backs Super Bowl-winning CB for snubbing Jalen Hurts from elite QB list – “Darius Slay is not a liar”

Jalen Hurts may have won a Super Bowl, but that doesn't automatically elevate him to the elite status like Mahomes, Lamar, Allen and Burrow.

Nobody can deny now that Jalen Hurts is among the best quarterbacks in the NFL. He is currently among the few active quarterbacks to win a Super Bowl, but does it mean he is automatically an elite quarterback? His former Philadelphia Eagles teammate, Darius Slay, doesn’t count the 26-year-old among the elite.

In a rant during an interview with Complex Sports, Slay picked his four elite quarterbacks. The 34-year-old chose Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, and Joe Burrow, leaving out Hurts. The list created much buzz on social media, with Eagles’ fans coming at him from all directions.

Slay found support from former Kansas City Chiefs QB and current FS1 contributor Chase Daniel. During Friday’s segment of The Facility, Daniel, Emmanuel Acho, and James Jones discussed Slay’s statement and unanimously agreed the 6x Pro Bowler was correct in his assessment.

Darius Slay is not a liar… If you poll 32 NFL teams and their starters and their executives and everyone that knows anything about actual QB play, they would say, yeah, the four elite QBs are Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson.

Daniel further added that he doesn’t see how anyone can replace the four mentioned with Hurts, even though he has won a Super Bowl.

I can’t, and quite honestly, I don’t know how anyone can [put Jalen Hurts in the elite QB list]… There’s been plenty of non-elite QBs who have won Super Bowls.

Does Jalen Hurts count as an elite QB because he won a Super Bowl?

Hurts can’t be the only man attributed to the Eagles’ Super Bowl win. Running back Saquon Barkley had a big role to play in the triumph—some would say Barkley had a bigger role compared to Hurts.

As Daniel mentioned, there have been plenty of quarterbacks who have won a ring that can’t be considered elite. A lot would not consider Nick Foles an elite QB. Some might even push Matthew Stafford into the conversation. The 2021 Los Angeles Rams team won the Super Bowl, but until that point, Stafford just had four winning seasons in 11 years as a starter.

However, Hurts is undeniably a class above both of them. He had Barkley for just one year and before that recorded four winning seasons and a trip to the Super Bowl in 2022, which he lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Hurts has a win-loss record of 46-20 in the regular season and 6-3 in the postseason (including the Super Bowl LIX victory). He may not be in the same conversation as Mahomes, Burrow, Jackson, and Allen, but the Alabama graduate won a ring before three of them.
