The Buffalo Bills fell short of reaching the Super Bowl yet again, but 2024 was quite the season for quarterback Josh Allen. He finished the year with 3,731 yards, 28 touchdowns, and a QBR of 77.3. These stats were enough to win him the MVP Award.
The Bills are in cap hell as they scrambled to fall within the salary cap threshold. Fortunately, two moves helped the team achieve this goal. The first of these was parting ways with Von Miller, and the second was extending Josh Allen. The quarterback did not just receive an extension, he received a historic deal that will keep him in Buffalo for another six years.
The new deal pays Josh Allen a total of $330 million with a guaranteed sum of $250 million which makes it the largest guaranteed deal in NFL history. The quarterback’s deal eclipses Dak Prescott’s current deal of $240 million with $231 million of it fully guaranteed. The overall value of the deal is only second to Patrick Mahomes in terms of the most valuable deals offered to a quarterback in league history.
The situation was handled in the right manner. A player like Josh Allen always puts the team first. He is similar to Patrick Mahomes in that sense. They both like to win and understand that they can earn big money off the field through other endeavors, which is why they take team-friendly deals. Josh Allen fills the seats at Highmark Stadium and deserves every penny.
Over the next four years, he gets $220 million. This number is higher than what Dak Prescott stands to make. Another reason this move was good for Buffalo was because they locked their quarterback in before the market reset. The QB market is an expensive one, the ceiling has shown no signs of stabilizing and continues to increase. The Bills will not need to worry about negotiating Allen’s contract for the foreseeable future.
Chase Daniel believes Josh Allen was one of the most underpaid quarterbacks in the NFL
In light of Allen signing his new deal, former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel is happy for him. He played for 12 years and spent his career with the Los Angeles Chargers, the Chicago Bears, the New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, and the Kansas City Chiefs. Daniel played as a backup quarterback for the most part, but was able to amass nearly $41 million in career earnings.

The analyst shared his thoughts on the record deal via The Facility on FS1. From his viewpoint, the quarterback was not compensated well enough and he is right because Allen ranked 14th in terms of quarterback pay in comparison to his peers.
Daniel believes the quarterback was offered the contract at the right time.
Josh deserves it. MVP this year, he was grossly underpaid, making $43 million per year. Around the 14th highest-paid quarterback. But significance-wise this is big because Josh Allen had 4 years left on his contract. They pretty much tore it up, said, ‘You know what? You’re worth way more than that.
Chase Daniel said
It was absurd to see the Bills offer their quarterback this deal because he still had four years pending on his deal.

Teams loathe when their star player approaches the end of their contract because it means negotiating a bigger deal. However, in this instance, the Bills should be lauded because they understood their quarterback was underpaid and stepped up to compensate him fairly. It was a good-faith move on their part and it was smart as it enabled them to restructure their cap accordingly.
