Josh Maja has performed sensationally well in the first half of the ongoing season, and many Premier League clubs remain interested. He could very well move to England in the ongoing January transfer window. Spanish outlet Fichajes has reported that Chelsea and Tottenham have taken notice of the sensational performances of the player and want to sign him in the ongoing transfer window.
The 26-year-old moved to the Premier League in the summer transfer window of 2023 after not making his place stable at FC Girondins de Bordeaux. He did not have a good time on the field in his first season in England. However, he has performed really well in the ongoing season with 12 goals and two assists in the 26 matches that he has played so far.
He has an ongoing contract with West Brom till the summer of 2026, but Premier League giants like Chelsea and Tottenham want to secure his signing in January to strengthen their team for the second half of the season. The two London clubs feel that Maja would be a great addition to their attacking department.
Nicolas Jackson has been terrific for the Stamford Bridge side. However, the Blues want more options in that area of the field, who can cover for Jackson and also compete with him for a spot in the playing XI. Meanwhile, the Spurs could use him as an excellent backup striker after Timo Werner continues to disappoint this season.
Why does Tottenham want to sign Josh Maja?
Tottenham are having a very bad season so far in the Premier League. They are 12th in the points table with 24 points in 20 matches. Spurs have managed to win seven matches, draw three, and lose 10 matches. Hence, their manager Ange Postecoglou wants to strengthen the attacking department in this window and can save their season in the latter half.
West Brom will demand at least £15 million to sell him, and this is definitely an amount that both Chelsea and Tottenham will be able to pay. However, Maja’s club is fighting relegation. As such, it won’t be easy for the London clubs to get one of the most important players of West Brom in this situation.
It remains to be seen if the Blues and Spurs can convince West Brom to sell their star player. However, given the position of Tottenham, they need the signing more than Chelsea, who are already fourth in the points table with 36 points in 20 matches. Only time will tell what happens to the future of Maja.
