Chelsea continued with their impressive form under new manager Enzo Maresca, claiming a comfortable 5-1 victory over Southampton in the Premier League. Englishman Noni Madueke had a brilliant outing as he ended the match with a goal and an assist.
Enzo Maresca’s side produced a fine display of their attacking prowess. Axel Disasi opened the scoring for the Blues in the 7th minute with a brilliant header. However, it was quickly cancelled out by Joe Aribo’s 11th minute equalizer.
The Saints made several errors, as Christopher Nkunku capitalized on one of them to put Chelsea back into the lead. Noni Madueke then curled in a beautiful shot to make it 3-1. The Blues dominated in the second half as well, with Cole Palmer and Jadon Sancho adding to the scoreline.
For Southampton, the night went from bad to worse, as skipper Jack Stephans was sent off in the 39th minute of the match for ‘violent conduct’. Madueke and Nkunku on the other hand, enjoyed two goal contributions each, while Sancho scored his first goal for the Blues this season.
The win helped Chelsea jump to the second position on the EPL table with 28 points, seven behind leaders Liverpool. This also puts Chelsea firmly into the title race, despite Enzo Maresca’s recent admission that they are not in it.

Enzo Maresca warns Noni Madueke over his attitude following Chelsea’s 5-1 win over Southampton
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca warned forward Noni Madueke about his attitude, despite his heroic display for the club in a 5-1 victory over Southampton. He revealed the reason why he had dropped the 22-year-old from the squad in their match against Aston Villa.
Madueke made a splendid return to the Blues starting XI with a goal and an assist against Southampton. However, Maresca later spoke about the youngster’s training habits. He revealed that Madueke’s lack of effort in training was the reason for his omission from the Aston Villa match, which the Blues won 3-0. He urged the Englishman to be more ambitious, as well as focus on providing more assists.
Despite the criticism, the young English winger, who joined from PSV last year, has been shining this season. In 16 appearances, the 22-year-old has notched up six goals and also provided two assists in all competitions.
