Chelsea fans were far from happy with Enzo Maresca‘s reaction to the club’s disappointing 2-1 defeat to Brighton in an FA Cup fourth round encounter. The Italian manager, instead of reacting to his team’s poor display, pointed to the positives after their exit.
The Blues became the fifth major London club to be eliminated out of the FA Cup. Chelsea went ahead in the early fifth minute of the match, thanks to an own goal by Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen. Despite the advantage, the Blues conceded soon after, as Georginio Rutter made it 1-1. Kaoru Mitoma completed the Seagulls’ impressive comeback with a second-half goal.
Chelsea have now failed to win five out of their last seven matches, putting Enzo Maresca‘s debut campaign off-track. The club has also failed to progress beyond the fourth round of the FA Cup in two of the last three editions. Brighton, on the other hand, after limiting the Blues to just one shot on target throughout the match, made it to the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Reflecting on his team’s poor display, Chelsea boss Maresca opted to focus on the positives from their match against Brighton. While he stated that being out of the FA Cup is a matter of ‘shame’, he exclaimed that the team could now focus on their EPL and Conference League campaign. It comes after Maresca’s previous claims that the Blues are not in contention to win titles this season.
Being out of the FA Cup, it’s a shame. No doubt… If there is something positive, we can be focused on the Premier League and the Conference League. Hopefully we can continue our journey there.

Following their early FA Cup exit, Chelsea will now be focusing on their upcoming matches, which include an EPL encounter against the same opposition, Brighton. It will be followed by a crucial match against eighth-placed Aston Villa.
Fans react to Enzo Maresca’s ‘positive’ comment on Chelsea’s humiliating FA Cup exit to Brighton
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca’s response about focusing on the team’s EPL and Conference League campaign following an early FA Cup exit did not sit well with fans. They took to social media to lament the Italian manager’s mentality.

Some Blues fans exclaimed that Maresca is not a ‘serious’ man, while a few others urged the Italian manager to give assurance rather than hope to the fans. One fan hilariously stated that the manager is trying to cover up the shameful loss to Brighton with his statements. Another fan went on to claim that Chelsea are trying to flex a ‘small club mentality’.

Enzo Maresca will now focus on making a return in the EPL after having dropped from second to fourth place on the table. They still remain 13 points behind league leaders Liverpool and just two ahead of defending champions Manchester City.
