Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca slammed club forward Raheem Sterling, responding to the player’s recent controversial statement over his exclusion. The Italian stated that he has been ‘honest’ rather than harsh with Sterling.
Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell are among the several players facing an uncertain future at Chelsea. Both players have been training away from the first team, and were excluded from the recent match against Manchester City. Meanwhile, the Blues are aiming to offload multiple players, with manager Enzo Maresca indicating that more than 15 players may need to leave from their overcrowded 43-man squad.
Sterling’s representatives, however, came out to question the player’s exclusion and sought clarity on his future at Stamford Bridge. Some have labeled the omission as ‘brutal,’ but the new Italian manager responded by asserting that he has been ‘honest’ with the excluded players about their situation and prefers different types of wingers than Sterling. He also minimized concerns about the squad size, claiming he currently has only 25 players available.
Brutal? I don't think so. I try to be honest. I spoke with Raheem before the City game. I said he is going to struggle to get minutes with us and this is the reason why he is out of the squad.Enzo Maresca on forward Raheem Sterling (via Sky Sports)

“If he wants a chat again I’ll tell him exactly the same things that I already told him. I don’t have anything new to tell him because I was quite clear.” ?

With their relationship having strained considerably, the 29-year-old forward hopes to resolve issues over his future before the deadline day.
Chelsea offer veteran forward Raheem Sterling to Premier League rivals
The Blues have reportedly offered Aston Villa with an opportunity to sign Raheem Sterling, as manager Enzo Maresca has made it clear that Sterling is no longer needed at Stamford Bridge. The Englishman made 81 appearances for the club, scoring just 19 goals.

Raheem Sterling reportedly wants to remain in the EPL and has been offered to Aston Villa. Juventus had previously shown interest in a player swap involving Federico Chiesa, but it did not come to fruition. With the arrivals of Joao Felix and Pedro Neto, Sterling would be excess to the club’s left wing needs.
Moreover, selling the 29-year-old forward would significantly reduce Chelsea’s expenses, given his £300,000 weekly salary. His high salary demands could, however, be a major obstacle to any transfer.
