It was business as usual for Manchester City as Pep Guardiola‘s men absolutely demolished Enzo Maresca‘s Chelsea. The defending Premier League champions put 4 goals past the Blues as Erling Haaland took center stage with a brilliant hat-trick. Despite having a difficult start to pre-season, City put all their difficulties behind them as they took to the pitch against Chelsea.

Despite Haaland’s struggles in the past to score against the Blues, the Norwegian was on a mission to rewrite the same. City got off to a flying start and were 1-0 up within four minutes. City were awarded a penalty as Haaland stepped up to send Robert Sanchez the wrong way. Chelsea hadn’t recovered from the early setback when the No.9 capitalized from an unforced error by Chelsea’s back line.

The score remained 2-0 into the 55th minute, after which Oscar Bobb and Erling Haaland scored in quick succession to make it 4-0. Bobb caught Sanchez out at his near post while Haaland dribbled into the penalty area before comfortably placing it beyond the reach of the goalkeeper.

Chelsea fought back with two goals, even though it barely affected the final score. 4-2 read the score line as Chelsea suffered their second ‘big’ defeat of pre-season.

Fans react to Chelsea’s humiliation at the hands of Manchester City

Enzo Maresca had a miserable reunion with Pep Guardiola as the former Manchester City man took on the Cityzens at Ohio Stadium. Following the emphatic result, a fan commented that it was time to delete and dissolve Chelsea Football Club as an institution. Another replied that things just kept getting worse for the new boss.

Despite the backlash, there were fans that understood that Chelsea are adapting to their new style and that friendly results didn’t really matter. A few were dumbfounded at Erling Haaland’s effortless hat-trick and were confident that he’ll continue his form going into the Premier League season.

It isn’t surprising that fans are concerned for Chelsea after looking at the rest of their fixtures in pre-season. With games against Real Madrid and Inter Milan on the horizon, the club will be lucky if they manage to pull off any positive results from their upcoming games. Despite the loss, Pep Guardiola has full confidence in his former colleague and claimed that he has all it takes to succeed.
