Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich arrives at the opening of the civil proceedings brought by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) against Abramovich, Shvidler and the Russian giant Gazprom on May 2, 2018, at the District Court of Sarine in Fribourg.

Since Roman Abramovich took over as owner of Chelsea FC in 2003, Chelsea have become a team that was capable of winning titles. A Champions League title, 2 Europa League titles, 5 Premier League titles and more followed after he bought Chelsea. He showed the power of money in football as hordes of talented players descended at Chelsea as Arjen Robben, Andriy Shevchenko, Didier Drogba, Eden Hazard, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz all were signed for big money in his reign. If Abramovich is known for one thing, it is for his ruthless expectations and many a manager has suffered from it.
At the rate that it is going, Chelsea might not have a manager interested in them
It has been a little more than 17 years since Roman Abramovich bought Chelsea and in those 17 years, 14 managers (Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink have managed Chelsea twice) have come and gone with Frank Lampard being the latest. Abramovich has ruled the club with leniency and hasn’t shied of spending money in the transfer market, but is absolutely determined about winning. Winning is the only way managers can survive at Chelsea and anything less than that means you would find yourself without a job at Chelsea.
The longest serving manager for Chelsea under Roman Abramovich is Jose Mourinho who was there from 2004 to 2007 in his first spell. That speaks volumes about Abramovich’s expectations as clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United have persisted with their manager at hand and allowed them time to succeed. Ask Jurgen Klopp who finished only in top 4 for the first three seasons running and didn’t win a trophy until 4 years into his reign. Manchester United has stuck with Ole Gunnar Solksjaer despite mediocre performances and now reap the benefits as the club plays like a proper team of the old days.
Roman Abramovich is the owner of the club, but needs to stop jumping the gun as soon as Chelsea lose four or five matches. Football isn’t a patient game, but patience has its rewards when done properly. Both Liverpool and Manchester United would not want any other manager other than Jurgen Klopp and Ole Gunnar Solksjaer right now at the helm and that is what patience brings you.
