“One step forward, two steps back”- Chelsea sacking Mauricio Pochettino triggers WILD reactions from football fans on social media

After enduring a season to forget, Chelsea Football Club have finally made the decision to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino. The former Tottenham Hotspur and PSG boss took charge of the Blues prior to the start of the 2023/24 season with high hopes of securing some much-needed silverware. However, at the end of the season, Chelsea only have a disappointing sixth place finish to show for.

Following Todd Boehly‘s takeover and investments in transfers, the club have seen at least 4 managers take charge since September 2022. Despite inheriting a squad that cost Boehly well over a billion dollars, unfortunate injuries and poor form overall held the team back from achieving what was expected.

Prior to the end of the season, Mauricio Pochettino had expressed his desire to stay another year at the club. As the Blues prepare to start from square one yet again, fans have begun to wonder which direction the club is heading for. Chelsea will be participating in the UEFA Conference League next season following their 6th spot finish.

It may be surprising to know that Enzo Fernandez is about to play under his fourth manager since joining Chelsea! What’s even more baffling is that he joined the club in January 2023.

Rival Fans couldn’t hold back their laughter as Chelsea parted ways with yet another big-name manager. A fan commented that one step forward and two steps back seems to be the Chelsea way.

Another added that no club in the world can be successful if they keep firing managers at the pace of Cheslea. Some pointed to the moment where Pochettino ignored owner Todd Boehly while going up to collect his runners-up medal in the Carabao Cup final. Some felt that Pochettino was badly done over by Boehly despite making them finishing in a European spot.

Others labeled the decision by Boehly as undeserved and that the club will come to regret this the following season. Many still couldn’t believe how a coach that had the backing of the entire dressing room could be fired just like that.

Despite all the commotion, fans found a way to make fun of Manchester City in the process. A fan laughed at how Pochettino’s sacking got more attention than City winning the title.
