Chelsea women’s forward Samantha Kerr faced a court trial in London. It was over a 2023 incident where she was accused of racially abusing a white police officer. The heated argument occurred after Kerr had smashed a taxi window in an inebriated state.
Sam Kerr and USWMNT star Kristie Mewis were detained by London police over an incident that occurred in Twickenham, on January 30th, 2023. The two were travelling in a taxi after a drunk night out. However, a dispute later arose between Kerr and the driver over the fare. She had allegedly vomited in the cab and smashed its rear window. The driver alerted the police of the incident.
The driver had reportedly stopped outside the Twinckenham police station, seeking help. Two officers took notice of the incident. One of the officers, PC Stephan Lovell, who was trying to explain the situation to the two footballers was verbally abused by the Chelsea star. Kerr repeatedly hurled ‘sX’ rated racist slurs towards the officer over his ethnicity. All of it was recorded on a body cam.

The 31-year-old was charged by police for criminal damage and for aggravating public order. Sam Kerr underwent a trial at the Kingston Crown Court. She accepted uttering those words, but pleaded not guilty of racial harassment. Kristie Mewis testified by claiming that the taxi driver had refused to take them home. She added that they were being held hostage, and they tried to escape through the window.
