Chelsea star, Wesley Fofana found himself amidst some serious controversy as he chose to ignore fans with a gesture of a fake phone call. In a video that has gone viral on the social media, two Chelsea players, Malo Gusto and Fofana were coming out after the practice sessions as the fans waited in eager anticipation.

On hearing his name, Gusto did come up to the fans, signed a few autographs, and shook hands with them. Following him, walked out Wesley Fofana who immediately on seeing the fans, took the phone next to his ears, trying to leave an impression that he was talking to someone just to avert fan interaction.

The fans in attendance weren’t definitely happy about this. With praises for Gusto, they were somewhat left shocked with Fofana’s fake call. As social media continues to advance, players have come a lot closer to the fans through the different mediums while the old school ways of meeting one’s favorite athletes still remains paramount.

Fofana has been a part of Chelsea for the last two years. Arriving from Leicester City for a reported initial fee of £70 million, plus £5 million in add-ons. He has been a part of 16 appearances for the club since then while registering a solitary strike for the Blues. Malo Gusto joined Chelsea in 2023 following which he was loaned out to Lyon. He is back to Stamford Bridge, hoping to leave an impact in the ongoing season.

A glance at how Chelsea started their latest season

Chelsea started their Premier League campaign with a 0-2 defeat at the hands of Manchester City but was quick to return to winning ways. They followed the defeat in the season opener with a win against Servette in the first-leg of Europa Conference League. They also staged a strong turnaround in the Premier League as they humbled Wolves by a staggering 6-2 margin.

Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring for Chelsea while Matheus Cunha scored the equalizer for the Wolves. Cole Palmer propelled Chelsea to another slender lead in the 45th minute before Jorgen Strand Larsen made it all square. It was the second half madness from the Blues that left the Wolves reeling in agony. Noni Madueke‘s hattrick laced with Joao Felix‘s 80th minute strike sealed the deal for Chelsea emphatically.
