Chelsea’s lack of wingers proves to be their Achilles heel against Everton

Chelsea football club’s seventeen game unbeaten record across all competitions came to a halt after they succumbed to a 1-0 loss against Everton at Goodison Park.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men parked the bus against Chelsea and sat back to hit them with counter attacks everytime. Injured wingers proves to be a major disadvantage of Chelsea as the game screamed for innovation.

The lack of wingers for Chelsea

Hakim Ziyech limped off in the game against Leeds United last week. He’s down with an injured hamstring and it’s sole days left till he returns to the squad.

In his absence Kai Havertz was given the role of the right wing and he had an absolute disaster class failing to make any impact whatsoever. The German international can’t be played here as he’s more suited in a central role.

The left wing too was equally ineffective with Timo Werner hardly involved at all. Should they’re have been a Christian Pulisic there, we could’ve seen a lot different result.

Pulisic too has slight injury concern and it’s understandable that Frank Lampard doesn’t want to risk him at this stage. It’s a long season and Chelsea need their best players to be fit.

Callum Hudson Odoi too is out with injury and that meant Frank Lampard had literally no options in his winger role. No right or left wingers to play with Mason Mount too employed in the midfield role.

Frank Lampard too has spoken on this issue and he acknowledges that the lack of wingers available made it difficult for Chelsea. Such was the case that at one point all three strikers Timo Werner, Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham were the front 3!

Pulisic was uncomfortable during the week so he couldn’t play,” Lampard told reporters, adding that the congested schedule was taking a toll on the league’s attacking players.

There are muscle injuries all over,” he said. “Players who are explosive and at the top end of the pitch are getting injured. Did we miss our wide players? Yes, we did because they’re important for us.”
