Even as the Indian Premier League (IPL) draws near, news of positive tests of COVID-19, especially in Mumbai have raised concerns and doubts. Earlier, 8 members of the groundstaff at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai had tested positive for the virus. Similarly, Axar Patel of Delhi Capitals (DC) tested positive and is currently in isolation in Mumbai ahead of the side’s first match on the 10th of April.

Meanwhile, a member of the Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) content team has also tested positive for the virus, according to reports from Cricbuzz and The Times of India. CSK begin their IPL campaign against the Delhi Capitals and they would want to put the disastrous season last year behind them with a much better showing following some smart buys at the auction this year.

According to reports from TOI, no player or support staff from CSK has tested positive for the virus. “It is an official from the CSK content team. His tests came through today, following which he has been completely isolated from the rest of the squad. It can be confirmed that he didn’t go anywhere near the players and support staff. So they are all safe and the team will continue to practice as usual today,” a source reportedly said.

“There are no breaches and the team has been adhering to all the protocols strictly. It is unfortunate that a member of the content team got affected. But it has put the team on guard and they are taking all kinds of precautions,” the source added.

It is noteworthy that last season as well, Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad had tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the season.

CSK are scheduled to begin their IPL campaign against DC on the 10th of April.
