Chennedy Carter is struggling to catch the interest of WNBA teams after her body slamming antics against Caitlin Clark drew a lot of negativity.

Chennedy Carter ends Caitlin Clark ‘hate’ narrative with LeBron James comparison

Chennedy Carter uses LeBron James comparison to deflect 'hate' claims over Caitlin Clark

Ever since Caitlin Clark came into the WNBA, it seemed as if some existing players were not happy with the attention she was receiving. Some believed the Indiana Fever superstar had not won anything to be deserving of all that fame.

This narrative came to the attention of LeBron James and Charles Barkley, who individually slammed the current and former stars for being petty. They felt the old heads should embrace Clark, especially with the transformation she was bringing to the league.

It is not clear if those vets listened to their comments. Some were leaning towards accepting the fact that the rookie was a fan favorite. Others believed James and Barkley’s criticism were unwarranted. Then during the season Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter body slammed Clark.

Suddenly fans, NBA stars and some media members believed Carter displayed what some in the league truly felt about Clark. Some even asked the Fever to hire enforcers to protect their starlet. Since that incident, Carter has been facing the music but believes she did not do anything intentionally.

We’ve seen a lot of clips in the NBA where guys get into it. I think it was Jeff Teague who pushed LeBron (James) out of bounds. It happens in basketball. It’s just like one of those things. It’s kind of what happened, and it spiraled out of control. It was like a little tap, like, ‘I’m here’ not to harm you or anything.

Chennedy Carter believes her hit on Caitlin Clark was similar to how Jeff Teague once pushed LeBron James out of bounds after frustrations boiled from constantly losing. Streamer N3on agreed with the now former Chicago Sky star that the media blew it out of the proportion. Carter doubled down that there were no ill-feelings behind that hit.

Chennedy Carter has high praise for Caitlin Clark

While speaking with N3on on his live stream, Chennedy Carter implied that the entire situation started to build up due to some trash talk that were brewing up during the game. She retaliated just to ensure Clark knows she is there to respond. But Carter clarified she thinks highly of the Indiana Fever star.

My personal view is I don’t have anything against (Clark). She’s a great player and so am I. I love it, though. They think I hate it! I love the hate!

The 26-year-old praised Caitlin Clark and considered her to be a terrific basketball player. This was a completely different stance to how she responded to questions from the media after that incident. Back then, she called out the ‘Fever needs an enforcer’ narrative on social media. That indicating she wanted to hold her side.

That is what fans believe led the Chicago Sky to not extend an offer to the then restricted free agent. Now as a free agent, she is waiting for teams to call her agent. But so far no one has handed her even a training camp contract.

Will Carter play in the WNBA this season?

Chennedy Carter ended last season as the Chicago Sky’s second-best player. Her scoring and on-ball defense were good enough to land a longer and more lucrative contract. She even took her jump in contribution to the Chinese Basketball League.

The Texas native ended up as the top scorer as well as the league MVP. All of those performances should excite team owners. They will get a player who can score from anywhere on the court. But it seems body slamming Caitlin Clark has ended up becoming disastrous.

Carter’s head coach lost her job after it became apparent that she could not control the 26-year-old. Now it seems no team wants to deal with a possible negative narrative that could follow her. However, it is still possible that she ends up playing this season.

Any WNBA team struggling with injuries could sign Carter as a mid-season pickup. By then, it will be difficult to ignore that the team will get an All-Star caliber player for the league minimum. Any team struggling with cap space can sign her and slowly bring her back into the WNBA fold.
