He was also electric in the field as he plucked out excellent catches. Featuring in all of his side’s matches, he became a bankable bowlers for the side.
Thanks to the consistent performances, Sakariya’s name kept floating around cricketing circles with regard to a potential Indian side call-up. There had been rumors that he could be picked as a net bowler for the tour of England, but the same did not happen.
Chetan Sakariya had talked of money from IPL helping his father’s treatment
Before his father’s death, Chetan Sakariya had talked of how the money earned from IPL 2021 was helping him in giving better treatment for his father. He had talked to The Indian Express saying, “I was lucky because I had received my part payment from Rajasthan Royals a few days ago. I straight away transferred money back home, and that is helping my family the most in my toughest time.”
“People are saying stop IPL. I want to tell them something, I am the only bread earner in my family. Cricket is the only source of my earnings. I can give better treatment to my father because of the money I earned from IPL. Had this tournament not happened for a month, it would have been tougher for me. I come from a poor family, my father all his life drove tempo and because of IPL my whole life was about to change,” he added.
Despite the treatment, in what is truly tragic news, Sakariya’s father has now breathed his last. Tributes and condolence messages have started pouring in on social media.
