The Philadelphia Eagles (8-3) host the Chicago Bears (8-3) at the Lincoln Financial Field in Pattinson Avenue in South Philadelphia on Black Friday. The Eagles look for a win to put their disheartening loss against the Dallas Cowboys behind them, while the Bears want to keep their winning streak alive and rolling.

In the showdown between two division leaders, the conference spot is at stake. The Eagles are second, followed by the Bears, while the Los Angeles Rams lead the conference with nine wins and just two losses. That’s not all.

The Eagles and the Bears have played each other 47 times, and the latter holds the record in this matchup. The Bears have won 29 of the encounters between them, but the Eagles currently hold a six-game winning streak over the Bears, their last win coming in 2011. The Bears, led by Jay Cutler, outperformed the Eagles 30-24 in the Week 9 duel that year.

The six-game record by the Eagles also includes some blowouts that the Bears would want to forget. In 2013, the Eagles silenced the growling Bears to a meagre 54-11. Nick Foles threw two touchdowns, while LeSean McCoy ran for two, and Bryce Brown and Chris Polk ran their way into the endzone for one each. The Eagles demolished the Bears 31-3 in 2017 as well.

As the Bears head into 6-degree Philadelphia for their first game in three years, they will be fighting for an advantage at the conference seed and to end the Eagles’ streak over them.

How can the Bears win?

Chicago enters this matchup with a ground game that can control the tempo from start to finish. Averaging 142.3 rushing yards per contest, the second-best mark in the league, the Bears can dictate pace and keep Philadelphia’s offense on the sideline.

The Bears haven’t just leaned on the run, either. Caleb Williams has quietly helped elevate Chicago’s passing attack to 227.4 yards per game. Williams has thrown for 2,568 yards (ranked 10th), 16 touchdowns, and just 4 interceptions.

He’s on a personal mission to become the Bears’ first quarterback to throw for more than 4000 yards, although, as per current numbers, he may end up at least a few yards short of the target. However, he has the drive, and he’s been on the rise with exceptional performance in the past game.

By contrast, the Eagles have struggled to stretch the field, ranking 23rd with only 193.2 passing yards per game. In addition to Chicago’s combination of a top-tier rushing attack and a more efficient aerial game, they also have the most takeaways by any team (24) and the highest turnover differential at +16.

How can the Eagles win?

The Philadelphia Eagles have a clear path to taking control in this matchup. Jalen Hurts leads an offense that consistently moves the ball, and even though the Bears thrive on creating turnovers, the Eagles’ ability to sustain drives puts pressure on that approach.

Chicago has also been vulnerable on the ground, giving up 5.2 yards per carry, which opens the door for Saquon Barkley to make an impact. Barkley has been quite dormant this season, as the Eagles have consistently failed to establish a run rhythm.

However, with a vulnerable ground defense, the Eagles are expected to push Barkley into the attack and emulate some of the magic from last year. If Philadelphia protects the football and leans on its strengths, the matchup tilts in its favor. The Eagles also have the home advantage, having lost only once at home this season.
