When it comes to the Winter Classic game, the Chicago Blackhawks do not have good luck. On New Year’s Eve, they faced the St. Louis Blues from Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs. Despite home city advantage, they lost again.

The Blackhawks are once again not having a good season so far. After finishing with a disappointing 23-53-6 record in the 2023-24 campaign, the Hawks have not started this season well. This loss was not only their fifth loss in the Winter Classic Game, but also their fifth consecutive loss, after going on a three-game winning run.

The Hawks once again did not start strong and conceded within two minutes through Cam Fowler. Jordan Kyrou would double the team’s lead near the half way point through the first period.

Despite a goal by Taylor Hall in the first period to make it 2-1, goals from Justin Faulk, Dylan Holloway, and a second of the game from Fowler made it 5-1 for the Blues. Tyler Bertuzzi reduced the deficit to 5-2 but the Hawks ended up conceding another goal through Alexandre Texier and lost the game 6-2.

As for the Blues, this was their third victory in the last four games. This 6-2 triumph improved their overall record in the Winter Classic game to 3-0-0 having previously defeated the Blackhawks 4-1 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis in 2017 and the Minnesota Wild 6-4 at Target Field in Minneapolis in 2022.

The Chicago Blackhawks are not enjoying a good run of form. The Central Division side is currently bottom of the standings. In this run of five defeats, they have lost by the score line of 6-2 twice, highlighting their vulnerability in defense.

The 6-2 defeat against the St. Louis Blues in the Winter Classic game has ignited furious reactions on social media. Fans have attacked the team management once again. One fan wrote, “Danny, Jamie, and Kyle have destroyed this franchise. Sell the team“.

With this defeat, the Blackhawks now have a 1-6 record in outdoor games. Their only victory came over a decade ago in 2014, when they defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-1 in the Stadium Series at Soldier Field. They will now hope to avoid a sixth successive loss on Friday, when they take on the Montreal Canadiens.
