UFC 319 PPV headliner features Dricus Du Plessis taking on the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev for the middleweight title. Both fighters are explosive and find success in oddities and some believe it’s a 50/50 fight. CM Punk, UFC’s most divisive fighters of the past, gave his take on the August 16 PPV showdown, United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
The last time UFC landed in Chicago for a PPV event, Henry Cejudo bagged the vacant 135-pound gold vs. Marlon Moraes. Now, the promotion brings an epic warfare for the grand return. The bout between a head-first striker who’d risk everything vs. a grappler who wouldn’t stop takedown attempts could be massive. As such, CM Punk, a Chicago native, is excited for it.
I’m very excited, I’m probably ultimately going to be very disappointed too because I don’t know if I can go to the show, I’ve got to look at my calendar…That’s going to be a wild main event, man; It’s so hard to bet against Chimaev, you know, especially after what he did to Whittaker…[but] I think Dricus is really really smart, probably smarter than a lot of people give him credit for…I don’t know if I see this making five rounds and if it does, we’re probably gonna have two very tired fighters and it’ll look like Derrick Lewis vs Ngannou!

Phillip Jack Brooks, AKA CM Punk, as he’s more famously known, now competes for the WWE again. He has his SummerSlam World Heavyweight Championship assignment against Gunther. Punk has been a WWE/World Heavyweight/ECW Champion; World Tag Team/Intercontinental Champ, and even a two-time MITB honors winner. His foray into MMA/UFC, though, is remembered mostly for the wrong reasons.

Having made his debut at UFC 203 in 2016, the Chicago native lost both his outings. His second fight, despite Joe Rogan’s animated stance and gullibility of his finding footing in the striking department, went to decision, and he lost out on the cards. Since then, the promotion never bothered to book him again.
However, Punk keeps a close eye on the promotion and UFC 319 excites him. With that, and ahead of the UFC’s return to his homestead, he teased a potential appearance and gave his prediction of how it would go.
CM Punk teases UFC 319 PPV ringside appearance
From the basics of Basic Thuganomics rap stint, to a betrayal at his dream WM41 setting, to getting in with ‘The Ring General’ – CM Punk has had a lot on his plate. But while he didn’t spend long there, the thrill of the world’s premier combat sports promotion coming to his side of the world with the biggest of showdowns is some grandeur he can’t miss out.

With a look-through and getting to know the exact date for the Dricus Du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev showdown, Punk was elated that he actually may be able to attend. The Chicago Blackhawks fan and pro-Palestinian fame wrestler plans to be ringside with Southside-Chicago native and similarly-minded close bud Belal Muhammad, for that matter. Muhammad has had his own intentions for the division’s top two.
Brother, [right now] I’m so busy, like it’s absolutely insane. I know we’re in Europe for a big chunk of August but I don’t think it’s until the last week of August so I’ve got to double check…[Let’s see]…[Like] Hopefully I’ll be there, I’m gonna sit next to my bud Belal…

DDP is just a few weeks out from arguably facing a monster in his stiffest test, who comes with relentless pressure in the opening rounds. ‘Borz’, a big favorite on the money line, has never been involved in five-round affairs, which could be a big factor when it comes to tact and experience.
