Aiming high for the historic three-peat, the Kansas City Chiefs are sharpening their arsenal by acquiring a solid defensive player in Joshua Uche, ahead of the NFL trade deadline of November 5. And fans are ecstatic about this deal, eagerly anticipating the Chiefs’ journey toward another Super Bowl as they are currently favorites to win.
NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported on Monday that the Chiefs have acquired edge rusher Uche in a trade deal with the New England Patriots in exchange of a 2026 sixth-round pick.
Uche’s career in the NFL begin with the New England Patriots under head coach Bill Belichick after being drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. In the four seasons he spent there, he has been a rotational edge rusher and started only four games. He showed star potential in 2022, when he recorded a career-high 11 1/2 sacks, but it didn’t last long.
His contract ended this offseason, but instead of joining another team, he returned to the Patriots on a one-year contract. But when Kansas City made an offer, the Patriots accepted, hoping to trade some more veterans after head coach Jerod Mayo’s soft remark about his team.

This transition to another team wouldn’t be easy for Uche, especially when he turned down more money from another team during the offseason, as he couldn’t “envision myself playing for another team.”
Heartbreaking: Josh Uche who was just traded to the #Chiefs turned down significantly more money elsewhere as a free agent to stay with the #Patriots:

After Michael Danna sustained an injury, the Chiefs were looking for an edge rusher which prompted them to deal with the Patriots. Since he signed a $1.3 million base salary in the offseason, Uche is certainly an affordable addition for a salary-cap-constrained Chiefs.
Fan reaction to Joshua Uche’s addition to the Chiefs’ defense
After hitting the misfortune of injuries, the Chiefs are not ready to compromise their undefeated record. That’s why, first, they agreed to acquire star DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans to add more weapons for the passing attack. And now this new deal has brought them mixed reactions from the fans, who are mostly celebrating Uche’s addition to the solid Kansas City defense.

One fan exclaimed, “Unreal. The rich get richer,” referencing the strong roster assembled by head coach Andy Reid and the Chiefs front office. Another added, “Adding a pass rusher like this to an already stout defense WOW.” Here are some of the fan reactions:
It's almost like the chiefs want to win. Take note, other teams.

Absolutely! Uche's speed and ability to get to the quarterback should add an extra layer of pressure for the Chiefs' defense. With the Chiefs already having a solid defensive front,

Despite being favorites to win, the Chiefs know that achieving the historic three-peat wouldn’t be easy, especially since quarterback Patrick Mahomes hasn’t been at his A-game throughout this season. But adding strong players to the team would compensate for the shortcomings, as it previously did when they became the two-time Super Bowl defending champions.
