The Most Valuable Player Award often turns into a heated and controversial affair every other year. Last year’s award was contested strongly by Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen and Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson, and the former of the two went ahead to win the MVP for the first time in his career.
The decision by the voting board has become a widely debated contest between media professionals, fans, and even athletes. Kansas City Chiefs’ DT Chris Jones has weighed in on the debate and claimed that the MVP award was rightfully Jackson’s.
Jones said that Jackson has the skill to change the dynamic of the game, and is trying to stop and contain him is a difficult task.
As you see on film, fast, explosive. He can change the dynamic of it. So, you know, with him, it’s always tough to play against Lamar in the Baltimore meetings. You know, stopping Lamar is one thing; trying to contain him is another. And over the years, you look at how prolific he is as a passer, I think he’s completing 70 percent of his passes, which I think he should have won MVP last year. Have so much respect for him.
Jackson was one of the strongest quarterbacks in the league. He played one of his prolific seasons, featuring career-high totals of 4,172 passing yards, 316 completions, and 41 touchdown passes against just four interceptions in 474 attempts. On the ground, he added 915 rushing yards, moving past Michael Vick to become the NFL’s all-time rushing leader among quarterbacks.
However, Josh Allen was equally strong. Allen wrapped up the season completing 63.6 percent of his passes for 3,731 yards, 28 touchdowns, and only six picks. He also contributed 531 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.
The numbers, however, weren’t the reason behind the decision to select the MVP. Pete Prisco was one of the official MVP voters who voted for Josh Allen. He admitted that the lack of a star roster to support Allen as opposed to the likes of Derrick Henry in Baltimore.
Chris Jones addressed the Ravens’ recent drawbacks, like the fumbles and sacks
The Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs are 1-2 heading into their game this week. The Ravens have been troubled by several offensive troubles, like Derrick Henry’s fumbles and how the Detroit Lions were able to sack Lamar Jackson seven times.

Chris Jones had big words for Derrick Henry. He confessed that he thought Henry was as dynamic as Lamar Jackson. He added that it takes more than one person to contain Henry. In the last three games, Derrick Henry had three fumbles, which turned to become costly and frustrating errors for the Ravens.
Addressing the same, Jones said that the fumbles are quite a new territory for the running back. However, according to him, one man’s loss is another one’s gain, especially considering that they are playing the Ravens in a few days.
I think that’s new territory for him. Because you look over the years, he’s not a big fumbler…It’s also an opportunity for us to have somebody grab him first…Well, two people grab him first, and let’s try to get the ball.
He also admitted being surprised to hear that Jackson was sacked seven times by the Detroit Lions in their MNF game in Week 3. The Ravens, being behind in a game and needing to pass more, can lead to that unusual stat, at least according to Jones.
