Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill highlighted a key aspect of a football player’s life that often gets overlooked. He spoke about the wives and the partners of football players who take care of everything but never receive the recognition or the media limelight that they deserve.
Tranquill won his first Super Bowl last season and is gearing up for another year with stiff competition from Nick Bolton for the primary edge rusher on the roster. On Sunday (July 28), following the Chiefs’ practice at St. Joseph, the 28-year-old faced the media, answering several questions about the team and stuff outside of football.
One of those topics involved the player’s families and their contributions to their lives.
Our families go through a lot for us to play this game [football]. They don’t get nearly the credit that we do. They don’t get to talk to the media. The media doesn’t really talk about them. And so, the stuff that they do behind the scenes to make this possible is nothing short of amazing, and they know how much we love and appreciate them. And, yeah, we love our wives, we love our kids, we love our family.Drue Tranquill said
Tranquill thanked his wife Jackie for being with him through thick and thin. In his eyes, she deserves immense credit for taking care of their three kids (one son and two daughters) and making their lives easier.
I will give a shoutout to my wife. I mean, she’s back home with three children. She’s waking up early with them—putting them down at night—dealing with all the whining—the crying [and] everything in between. She’s having to move here, move all of our stuff, and I’m here playing football.Drue Tranquill added

Drue Tranquill shared a heartfelt message for his wife on social media
While the camp is going on, players usually don’t get many chances to see their family members because they have to stay at the facility. Even though spending time with teammates can be a great experience, players do miss their families.

After camp wrapped up on Sunday, Tranquill went back to his dorm and shared an emotional message on X (formerly Twitter) addressed to Jackie.

The Los Angeles Chargers drafted Tranquill in the 4th round in 2019. He spent 4 seasons in LA before he moved to the Chiefs in 2023, lifted the Lombardi Trophy in his first year, and signed a 3-year extension.
