Many expected Travis Kelce to not return to the Kansas City Chiefs after the embarrassment he faced this past season.

The Kansas City Chiefs wanted to be the first team in NFL history to win three-straight Super Bowls. Had they done that, it could have been the fitting send off for superstar tight end Travis Kelce. He could have finished his career on a high and started a new life with Taylor Swift.

However, the season end did not go as planned. Winning a third-straight ring could have masked the lethargic play the tight end displayed all season long. Now that they have lost, that is the image of Travis Kelce fans and analysts have on their minds.

His downtrodden expressions after Super Bowl LIX made it seem as if the 35-year-old was torn. He knew he did not play to his own standards and the manner in which they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles showed he and his teammates were not as good as advertised.

Many felt he will step away and fans felt he was headed in that direction when he mentioned that he needed time to think about his future. With that in mind, reporters asked Chiefs GM Brett Veach if Kelce was playing next season.

He was fired up, he has one more year under contract. Still think he has that fire and desire to play. We left it as, he’d be back and we’re excited to get him back and get him going.

Brett Veach said

This statement should be enough to convince Kansas City Chiefs fans that Travis Kelce will indeed catch passes from Patrick Mahomes next season. With a year left on the contract he extended this past offseason, this season could be his farewell run.

The fire could ignite Travis Kelce and Chiefs to be better

Travis Kelce finished the 2024 regular season with the worst statistics of his career. He tallied the fewest yards and touchdowns despite nearly 50% more catches than his full rookie season. His early season fitness struggles were evident as he looked out of breath.

As the season progressed, he started racking up the numbers, but they were not impacting the game the way the superstar tight end once used to. Usually, such situations tend to show that the player is declining.

But considering the competitor he is, expect the ten-time Pro Bowler to come back with a vengeance. One of his teammates indicated that the humiliation at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX will fire them up.

If that does happen, expect Kelce, Patrick Mahomes and their teammates to turn it up a notch. The Ohio native could finish out his career on a high if they win another Super Bowl. Then he can start a life with billionaire girlfriend Taylor Swift without regrets.
