Chiefs have overtaken Cowboys as “America’s Team”?
NFL analyst Chase Daniel makes a persuasive argument to strip the Cowboys of their 'America's Team' title and award it to the Kansas City Chiefs instead.

In the past decade, the landscape within the NFL has been significantly altered. Fans have witnessed a legendary team such as the New England Patriots go from a winning dynasty to one of the worst teams in the league. Simultaneously, the Kansas City Chiefs, a franchise that had not tasted victory in the Super Bowl since 1969, have quickly taken New England’s place by winning three rings and making multiple Super Bowl appearances.
The interesting change in dynamics gives rise to a question that most fans ponder. Despite other teams rising to the occasion, why is it that the Dallas Cowboys continue to be revered as ‘America’s team’? After all, the franchise has not been to a Super Bowl since the 1995-96 season. An interesting quote comes to mind: ‘Reach for the stars, and if you fall short, you may land on the moon.’ However, in the case of the Cowboys, a franchise whose logo is a star, they tend to keep running into asteroids three decades after their last championship win.
Is it time to strip the title of America’s team from the Cowboys and instead give it to the Chiefs? NFL analyst Chase Daniel believes so. The former quarterback believes so because Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have continued to break Super Bowl viewership records whenever they play in the big game. This is a team that is now widely recognized across the globe due to the relationship between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
Of the top 10 most-watched NFL games, the Chiefs had four…a 127.7 million people watched the Super Bowl, and the Chiefs are in it…The Chiefs, they’ve been to five of the last six Super Bowls…If you talk about on-field success, sustained success for the Chiefs has brought global brand recognition…Having the face of the most popular league in the world in Patrick Mahomes, that matters, having a future Hall of Fame coach in Andy Reid, that matters.
Chase Daniels said
Daniel said on The Facility. He did credit Jerry Jones and the Cowboys, who continue to grow in terms of market value despite having little success on the football field. However, considering what Kansas City has done in recent history, the big names affiliated with the franchise, such as Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Andy Reid, the analyst considers it to be a no-brainer that the Chiefs are the new ‘America’s Team.’
The Dallas Cowboys are twice as valuable as the Kansas City Chiefs
This season, the Cowboys will take on the Chiefs on Thanksgiving Day. Chase Daniel added that he believes the game will attract a significant viewership, not because of Dallas but because of Patrick Mahomes and Co.

If it wasn’t Cowboys-Chiefs, this game would pull 38-39 million, but because of the Chiefs, it’s going to pull 50 million. I hundred percent think this is the case, and if you look at in the US last year, the Chiefs are the most-watched football team out of any one on average. They averaged 25.5 million people watching the Kansas City Chiefs. The NFL is just better when the Cowboys are good, but when you look at what the Chiefs have done, and you look at the global brand recognition, it is really hard to say right now that the Kansas City Chiefs are not the new America’s team…
Chase Daniels argued
It is hard to argue with his logic because the Chiefs are the hottest team in the NFL right now. With millions of fans rooting for them and millions rooting against them, the franchise is widely recognized all over the world. The proof lies in the viewership numbers as cited by Daniel, Kansas City is worthy of overtaking the Cowboys as America’s Team.

However, the irony here is that winning has no direct relation to the value of an NFL franchise.
Here’s why the Cowboys will continue to hold onto the title of ‘America’s Team’
As per recent estimates, the Dallas Cowboys are valued at roughly $10.1 billion, making them the most valuable sports franchise in the entire world. Kansas City, on the other hand, is worth $4.85 billion. That is a big difference. Naturally, the first question that pops up is, ‘How can a losing team be valued so high?’
Well, the answer is simple. Jerry Jones is no football genius, but one thing he does better than his competition is marketing. Since his purchase of the team, he built up that reputation and aura around the franchise, upholding them to be America’s Team. Jones effectively built a fanbase so strong and loyal that they wish to be affiliated with this team in some form or the other.
The team’s stadium and Jerry World quickly became attractions that the fans were proud of. Tourists continue to flock in hundreds daily to catch a glimpse of Jones’ crown jewel. The owner has done a phenomenal job in terms of marketing, from offering tours of the training centres to the entire stadium, and setting up well-constructed bars and restaurants within the vicinity of the stadium, Jones has left no stone unturned to generate revenue.
The Cowboys are a franchise that will continue to be featured on prime time. This is a team that, at present, likely gains more views from individuals rooting for them to lose than fans hoping for a positive outcome. Additionally, Dallas almost always plays on Thanksgiving Day, a day on which millions of viewers tune in to watch. Despite the franchise enjoying little success on the gridiron, its popularity will not wane anytime soon. As far as the title of ‘America’s Team,’ the Cowboys will not be losing it anytime soon.
