The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off one of the most disastrous games of the franchise’s history at the grand field of the Super Bowl against rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles. Since the game, fans and analyst alike have been scratching their heads to comprehend where things went wrong with them and the prevailing answer seems to be one word: fatigue.
Amid the ongoing celebration of the Eagles’ historic victory, Fox Sports’ Henry McKenna made headlines with an intriguing report about Patrick Mahomes-led Chiefs. As they were heavily overpowered by Philadelphia to an extent where they couldn’t put a single point on the scoreboard for nine straight drives, McKenna explained it was because of “Super Bowl fatigue.”
Before the game, a Chiefs coach told me that media members had been asking him if going to Super Bowls ever got old—And he bluntly told me: ‘It does.’ There was legit Super Bowl fatigue from this Chiefs team. It was completely clear in the first half when things escalated quickly.

For the last seven years, or since Mahomes was drafted by the Chiefs, they have been in the headlines for on-field triumph. Not only did the 29-year-old establish the Chiefs as a dynasty by winning two back-to-back Super Bowl trophies, but he was on the verge of dethroning the seven-time Super Bowl champion, Tom Brady, as the GOAT.
Given that the Super Bowl LIX marked Kansas City’s fifth Super Bowl appearance in the last seven years, it’s not entirely wrong to say they were burned out.

Chiefs’ Travis Kelce hints at burnout while addressing his retirement speculations
Interestingly, the Chiefs superstar tight end Travis Kelce also hinted at this reported burnout while addressing questions about his retirement plans. While not in those same words, he explained the emotional toll of competing every season, particularly over the last three years leading up to the Super Bowl game.

The fact that we keep going to these AFC Championships and Super Bowls means I’m playing an extra three games more than everybody else in the entire league. That’s a lot of wear and tear.
Travis Kelce explained
Despite the reasonability of being exhausted, the blowout of Super Bowl LIX is expected to leave a lasting impact on the Chiefs. Quarterback Mahomes has attempted to channel this defeat into motivation, much like Brady did during his legendary career; overcoming this loss will likely take time and reflection.
Mahomes endured a rough Super Bowl LIX, throwing two crucial interceptions—one returned for a touchdown—and getting sacked six times as Philadelphia secured a dominant 40-22 victory in New Orleans.
