The Kansas City Chiefs came through on Sunday with an unbelievable storyline once again. The Chiefs clinched the AFC West for the ninth consecutive season after defeating divisional rivals Los Angeles Chargers through a bank-shot field goal.
In yet another low-scoring game, Patrick Mahomes set up Matthew Wright’s fourth field goal in the last minutes of the game after 4 and 1/2-minute drive. However, what seemed routine, took a turn when the ball struck the upright, only to deflect and gain three points. It marked yet another close call for Kansas City, a team that has won 10 games by a one-score margin this season.
Matthew Wright, an aerospace engineer, was a KC Chiefs practice squad member until last week. The Chiefs signed him off the practice squads after their backup kicker Spencer Shrader got injured and placed on Injured Reserve. Sprader himself replaced veteran kicker Harrison Butker, who sustained an injury to his knee. In the Black Friday game, Wright registered four of five field goals and made the only extra-point kick.
Speaking to reporters about the incident, Wright noted that he was happy despite the mechanisms of how it hit the upright and went in.
A DOINK FOR THE DIVISION! IT'S GOOD! @CHIEFS WIN! pic.twitter.com/RtsINqo05m

The Kansas City Chiefs keep finding new ways to win the game while tumbling down the blocs of records. They became the first team to have three different kickers winning the game for them through last-minute field goals.
In Week 2, Harrison Butker pinched one to defeat the Bengals 26-25. Fast forward, Spencer Shrader made his name with a game-winner against the Carolina Panthers in Week 12. Now, Wright made the third to register a unique NFL record.
Kansas City’s latest win against the Chargers leaves viewers astonished
‘Unconventional.’ It would be a fitting word for how the Kansas City Chiefs have been rolling this season. On Black Friday, a last-minute fumble saw them registering a season sweep over the Las Vegas Raiders. On Sunday Night, as Mike Tirico put it, a ‘doink’ into the upright and a win over the Chargers.
It is not surprising that some fans are not happy with how Kansas City has been winning games lately. Multiple fans across social media platforms, mainly X, have called out the Chiefs’ games as storylines.
This team isn't even good lol. Luckiest football team I've ever seen lol

At this point, if the Chiefs don't win the Superbowl, I don't know what it all means. This is getting beyond absurd.

The Chiefs continue to be the luckiest team in the NFL winning their 15th straight one-score game with the Doink for the Division

A doink? Really? Guess it’s good enough when you’re the Chiefs.

How does one accomplish that feat?? The Doink is wild.

Amid the sea of hate, Kansas City Chiefs fans also have resorted to some shade. A few fans have tweeted that as much as they like the unconventional last-minute exciting games, they feel this would not save them in the playoffs. The Chiefs, who won the league in the last two years, are heading towards a possible historic three-peat.
It's a good thing they have him since they don't seem to be able to score touchdowns. They will never make it to the super bowl playing like this. And don't get me wrong, I love the Chiefs and always have.

Hated every second of that last 2 minutes!

Not sure why you don't have one go to run it into the Endzone rather than put it all or nothing on your kicker.
That was just a couple of inches from going very wrong.
The Kansas City Chiefs have four games left in the season, with the Cleveland Browns up first. They will play their final home game in the regular season against the Houston Texans in the following week, before winding it off against the Steelers and Broncos in Week 17 and 18, respectively.
