The Corinthians Arena was brimming with more than fifty thousand people on Friday, the majority of whom were adorned in red jerseys. The Los Angeles Chargers, who were the home team in Sao Paolo, were reduced to a minority in the attendance. Nevertheless, the Chargers remained vicious and handed the Super Bowl LVIII champions their first loss of the 2025 season.

The result was not quite what the Chiefs wanted, especially considering that they are to face at least three more strong teams in the coming five weeks. In addition to the gut-wrenching one-possession loss, one of their important wideouts, Xavier Worthy, was injured during a play.

Worthy played just three snaps before colliding with tight end Travis Kelce on a crossing route. The player was instantly taken off the field with a possible shoulder injury. The shoulder injury has now been confirmed as a dislocated shoulder, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The wideout is expected to miss some time. However, if the further tests reveal a worse picture, Worthy could end up needing surgery and potentially delay his return. When he does return, Worthy is expected to be in a brace. The amount of time he will miss is currently not clear.

The Chiefs would like it to be sooner rather than later. They drafted Worthy after one of the fastest 40-yard dashes in the NFL Scouting Combine, in addition to a remarkable college resume. The 22-year-old was selected as the best Offensive Freshman of the Year in his rookie season with the Texas Longhorns. However, his NFL performance wasn’t what the franchise would have wished for.

Worthy finished the season with 59 catches for 638 yards and six touchdowns. The Chiefs, who are currently last in the division, will hope to see the wideout in action and better production than last year.

Travis Kelce targeted Xavier Worthy, fans dig up mystery connection stoking the fire

The drama never ends in the NFL. The latest incident between Travis Kelce and Xavier Worthy allegedly has a wild connection, or so certain fans believe. Amid the uncertainty about Worthy returning, fans have theorized that Kelce intentionally took out the wideout.

The targeting, according to this bizarre theory, has nothing to do with football though. The conspiracy is centered around Kelce’s fiancee and the globally popular singer Taylor Swift. Allegedly, jealousy was the reason behind Kelce taking one out on Worthy.

In her viral appearance on the New Heights podcast by Kelce and his brother, Swift recalled that she was running through her house when she learned that the Chiefs drafted Worthy. A user by the handle name, Jeremy Karp, tweeted a video edit of Kelce’s reaction during Swift’s revelation and clipped it together with the video from the game.

Travis Kelce himself wasn’t too much of a help against the Chargers. He just caught two passes for 47 yards and a fourth-quarter 37-yard touchdown. Though Kelce helped in gearing up some last drives, the decline in production pointed everyone’s eyes at his career trajectory.

The absence of Worthy only puts more pressure on Kelce as the team grapples with a deficient receiving room. The Chiefs are missing Rashee Rice as well as rookie Jalen Royals. Rice is serving a suspension, set to miss six games. Meanwhile, Royals appeared on the Chiefs’ injury report with a knee problem and was sidelined for the entire week of practice before being ruled out on Friday. His timeline for return is still uncertain.

The Chiefs’ WR room now consists of Hollywood Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster in the key roles. The absence of depth will mean that Kelce should become more proactive in the offense, much like his early career.
