‘Childish’ Jimmy Butler gets ripped by Tony Allen for Heat saga: “Only want to play one part of the season”
Former player Tony Allen believes that Jimmy Butler does not deserve a max extension contract from the Miami Heat.
Tony Allen called out Jimmy Butler after requesting a trade
The Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat saga has the NBA world divided into two groups. Butler’s potential departure from the team has generated a ton of criticism for the star. The Memphis Grizzlies’ former player Tony Allen falls into the latter category.
One of the main reasons for Jimmy Butler requesting a trade was the contract disagreement. Butler was reportedly not satisfied with the Heat’s offer which did not sit well with Tony Allen. During his appearance on KG Certified, Allen stated that Butler is not deserving of his expected max extension considering the number of games he played.
Allen was upset with the star as he believed that Butler was asking for more only based on his leverage. According to Allen, not having a championship was much more important. However, while saying that Allen also stated that he realizes the two sides and even praised Butler’s impact.
While Allen sounded disappointed, his expectations were not far-fetched. Despite coming so close and making it to the finals twice in the last five years, Butler has not managed to add a title to his name. Hence, Allen took the other side this time by sticking with the Miami Heat.
Blake Griffin believes Jimmy Butler had a ‘better way to go about it’
Along with Allen, former player Blake Griffin is also not too happy with Butler requesting a trade. During his appearance on Carmelo Anthony‘s podcast, Griffin did admit that he was impressed by Butler’s approach towards Pat Riley. Considering the president’s treatment of other superstars previously, Griffin was amused that Butler did what nobody could.
However, despite liking the approach, Griffin was so sure about Butler’s decision. The former Boston Celtic admitted that if was in a similar position, Griffin would have taken a different route in requesting the trade. Butler’s similar repetitive behavior with his previous teams was also called out by Griffin. “I think there’s a better way to go about it. Because now it has happened multiple times… Remember Minnesota, remember Philly,…you only have certain amount of times you can do that,” Blake Griffin said on 7 PM in Brooklyn.

Griffin and TA also both agreed that the consequences of this trade might be serious – Riley could even send Butler to a noncontending team like the Wizards. Also, the duo echoed that considering Butler’s age, there is a chance starting again with a new team will get difficult.
