Chris Broussard believes Tom Brady will play next season on one condition

Tom Brady and Chris Broussard
With Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers losing in the divisional round of the 2021 NFL playoff to the LA Rams, the age-old question has once again arisen. Is Tom Brady finally going to retire?
While we’ve had this question be asked numerous times, this year feels a little bit different. Brady is 44 years old now and certainly has other aspects of his life that need to be given attention to. That’s not to say they haven’t been attended but when you’re an NFL quarterback that takes up a huge chunk of your life for the entirety of the season.
Some rumors of Brady possibly retiring have surfaced this offseason even before they lost to the Rams. After the loss, it seems to be the only thing anyone is focusing on with Brady also addressing the matter saying a decision needs to be made. In past years he remained adamant that he wasn’t going anywhere. With this recent news, Chris Broussard gave his opinion on what would bring Tom Brady back for another season.
Chris Broussard states the one thing that could bring Tom Brady back

Appearing on Fox Sports’ ‘First Things First’ Chris Broussard was quoted saying “He brought in his family and obviously he’s gotta make the right decision concerning his family. Now I don’t know what it’s like being a football player during the 6 months of the season. He’s described it as wall to wall football for 6 months. So during that time is he able to spend enough quality time with his kids or not? If he’s not spending any quality time with his kids during that 6 months then I think that’s something he has to seriously consider”
While he covered the family aspect of the situation he also looked at it from a football perspective, adding “From a football perspective, I think Tom Brady wants to play. I think his competitive juices and fire are still raging hot. But I think he only wants to play for a team that can legitimately contend for a Super Bowl and I think that’s how it should be at this stage of his career.“
Broussard further added “I think he’s gonna sit back and see what Tampa does. They have a lot of guys that they can lose. If they can’t bring back a competitive team, not just competitive but one that we look at and think they can win the Super Bowl, then I don’t think he should play. I don’t think anybody wants to see him look like a run-of-the-mill quarterback on an 8-9 team that doesn’t make the playoffs.”
To sum up his point, Broussard also added “I don’t think he has much to gain by playing anymore outside of fueling his personal desires, which is important. But, if he wins another Super Bowl, that’s great but that doesn’t add much more to his legacy.”
If Tampa looks like a team that will compete for Super Bowl 57 then I think it’s pretty clear that Tom Brady will be leading the franchise to chase that ring. But if they’re not, then like Broussard said, there’s no reason going through the unbelievably difficult year that is an NFL season.
