The reigning Super Bowl champions started last season in a very weak position with a relatively new receiving group– which later turned out as the weakest receiving corps in the entire NFL. In spite of that, the Kansas City Chiefs came out victorious in the Super Bowl and became one of the nine teams in NFL history to win two consecutive Super Bowl trophies.

Heading into the upcoming 2024 season, the Chiefs are aiming even higher with a historic three-peat. But that sure wouldn’t be easy as the recent episode of First Thing First show discussed, where host Chris Broussard talked about the mentality superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes needs in the upcoming season.

Highlighting the DraftKings odds of Mahomes being the NFL MVP favorite for the coming season, Broussard put forward the name of basketball icon Michael Jordan for the reigning Super Bowl MVP to draw inspiration from.

I’m Mike Tyson right? And I have several fights where I win but there are decisions I make to go the distance. I’m not hurting the guy sure I’m winning but it’s not as fun as me knocking somebody’s block off and that’s where Patrick Mahomes is. And that’s what it’s like. If you have that ability, if you can average 30 a night and win like a Michael Jordan, it’s not going to be as fun averaging 21 a night and winning.

Broussard believes that there’s one more thing besides the three-peat that Mahomes should focus on and that’s dominance. Although the Chiefs won the Super Bowl LVIII last season, they hardly dominated the league last season, let alone the conference.

Patrick Mahomes determined to elevate Chiefs’ offense in 2024

In comparison to his previous feats, the 2023 season was one of his lowest for the Chiefs even though the year brought in more glory to the team by giving it the honor of a dynasty. Co-host Nick Wright highlighted that the quarterback performs at the best of his potential when he enters the field with a burning flame to prove himself.

It happened in 2022 when he was snubbed from the list of MVP favorites yet in 2021. If not personal growth as he hoped for, Mahomes shifted all his focus on bringing glory to the Chiefs.

By leading the Chiefs to six consecutive AFC championship game appearances to three Super Bowl victories in the last five seasons, Mahomes proved himself to be a jackpot trophy price following the 2017 trade during the drafts. With the 2024 season two months away, all eyes are on the elite quarterback to see how he will bounce back this year.
