Despite being among the best players on the Dallas Cowboys, Micah Parsons has to fight for his right to a mega contract extension because owner Jerry Jones would not talk to his agent. Parsons found no other option but to seek a trade and hold out from the Cowboys camp at Oxnard.
Jones may acknowledge Parsons as a valuable member of the Cowboys roster, but he’s not ready to bend over in the face of threats of a trade. He views Parsons’ trade request as a negotiation tactic.
Chris Canty is no stranger to Jones’ antics. He gained insight into the inner workings of the Cowboys during his early years in the NFL. Canty called out the Cowboys for dragging the Parsons saga out far too long in a recent segment of First Take.
The Dallas Cowboys are for entertainment purposes only. Before the Cowboys come on the TV, before we see their games, you know, when they show the NFL branding, they need to have a warning label come on the TV screen.

The former defensive lineman added that Jones, and the Cowboys handle business differently than any other organization.
They are playing a different game than the other 31 games in the National Football League because they are in the attention-seeking business, not the Lombardi-chasing business.
Parsons is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is set to earn $24 million for the 2025-26 season. He requested an extension early in the offseason when the pass rush market was between $30 and $35 million.
The former first-rounder warned the Cowboys that delaying the extension may cost them extra money. Sure enough, TJ Watt bagged a $41.5 million per year deal, and now Parsons expects an equal or better deal from Jones.
When Jones refused to respect Parsons’ wishes, the 26-year-old revealed that he submitted a trade request.
I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys. My trade request has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally.

This isn’t new for Jones. He dealt with similar situations in the past. Most recently, with quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Both cases ended with mega extensions.
However, Parsons’ situation is different. He expects Jones to do the right thing and involve his agent in the negotiations, but the 82-year-old isn’t too keen about the proposal.

Analyst revealed the status of Micah Parsons’ contract with the Cowboys
Parsons is holding out from training, but he frequently shows up at the camp even after requesting a trade. Several are eyeing the All-Pro pass rusher.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently revealed that there’s ‘no deal in sight’ between the Cowboys and Parsons, and the team could leverage the franchise tag if no extension is reached.
They’ve been very opposed to that idea, publicly saying, we’re not interested in trading [Micah Parsons]. He’s not going to be dealt. But you can’t not sign the guy and then you can’t not trade him. It’s one or the other.
Adam Schefter said on Get Up
Schefter added that both sides are waiting for either to make the first move.
I think both sides are disappointed with the other side. We’re waiting to see where this goes. And there’s no deal in sight right now.

"No deal in sight. If there's no deal in sight… what's going to happen? Is Micah going to play in the opener? We've already heard Jerry Jones wonder about whether Micah would be out…
Parsons played 13 games for the Cowboys last season, racking up 43 tackles, 12 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and 2 forced fumbles.
