Ex-Super Bowl Champion Doesn’t Have Faith in Aaron Rodgers Anymore

Chris Canty claimed that media and fans are overhyping an ageing Aaron Rodgers who is no longer in his prime.

Chris Canty is not buying into the Aaron Rodgers hype at the Pittsburgh Steelers. Canty believes Rodgers returning anything close to his MVP-caliber self is a ‘hoax.’

After months of courting, the Steelers signed Rodgers to a one-year contract. They did not retain Russell Wilson and Justin Fields before passing on Shedeur Sanders in the draft.

Rodgers, meanwhile, waited for the Vikings to give him a call. The Vikings opted to move in a different direction.

Elsewhere, the Giants aggressively pursued the 4x NFL MVP but to no avail. Rodgers committed to the Steelers for less money than initially speculated.

Analysts and former players were baffled by Mike Tomlin’s obsession with Rodgers. His signature received mostly negative reactions, as he was coming off an ACL tear, followed by a disastrous final year with the Jets.

Chris Canty is part of the same bandwagon that has very little faith in Rodgers turning his career around, let alone leading the Steelers to a deep playoff run.

I don’t believe in the quarterback… I just don’t. They’ve pinned the regression of Aaron Rodgers on injuries that he’s suffered over the last three years. Whether it’s injuries or whether it’s age, it doesn’t really matter. Here’s the thing… As players get older, they don’t get healthier. I don’t understand why everybody is falling into the hoax that is Aaron Rodgers year over year.

Chris Canty said during a recent edition of ESPN’s First Take

Rodgers caused panic among Steelers fans after photos surfaced of his wrapped foot. Head coach Mike Tomlin revealed it wasn’t anything serious.

However, Rodgers did not feature in any of the Steelers’ preseason games, delegating the quarterback duties to Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson, and Will Howard.

The AFC North team won against the Jacksonville Jaguars but lost narrowly to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In their final preseason game, they secured a victory over the Carolina Panthers, bringing their total to two wins.

Aaron Rodgers revealed the reason behind signing with the Steelers

Rodgers may have tested Cam Heyward’s patience for delaying his signing with the Steelers, but the water is under the bridge. Heyward invited the 41-year-old and team’s new wide receiver DK Metcalf on his Not Just Football podcast for an exclusive interview.

The topic of their discussion varied from discussing each other’s contracts to personal stories. At one point, Heyward asked Rodgers’ reason behind choosing to sign with the Steelers instead of other NFL teams that wanted him more.

Rodgers named coach Tomlin as the main catalyst and motivation for his decision.

Every time we talked beginning in March… Never once felt like he was coach to player. A lot of conversations with coaches, it always feels like, there may be an agenda or an angle [in their words]. Never once did Mike ever make me feel like that. I just really appreciate that.

Aaron Rodgers revealed

Rodgers would know. His last coach (for a brief period at the Jets) closed the door of the franchise in his face, forcing him to enter free agency for the first time in his career.

Tomlin’s approach is very different from Rodgers’ sour experience in the Big Apple.

I [always] felt like talking to a friend and not like a coach who was trying to get me to make a decision, ‘Hey! How is this person?’ Never once did it ever feel like that.

Rodgers quipped

Ironically, Rodgers’ first game in black and gold will be against the Jets at MetLife Stadium. It’s worth noting that Rodgers’ last debut left much to be desired.
