The storylines ahead of the Week 10 Monday Night Football between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers were power-packed. The Eagles were looking to stay dangerous and defend their conference topper’s crown, while the Packers wanted to disrupt the NFC with an upset win.

The snooze fest 10-7 MNF ended with the Eagles grabbing yet another win and extending their winning streak against the Packers to four games. The Packers registered just 261 net yards, 157 through the air and 104 on the ground. Jordan Love, the Packers quarterback, threw for 176 yards and no touchdowns and interceptions with a completion rate of 55.55% and a QBR of 68.8.

In the short time that has passed since, Love has been grilled by the fans online for his weak production numbers against the Eagles. However, more than Love, Matt LaFleur, the Packers’ head coach, has taken the brunt of it all in the past two weeks. The Green Bay team looked like a title contender before they lost two games marred by offensive struggles and fell from leaders to third in the NFC North. And that has people concerned about LaFleur.

Chris Canty, a former NFL player who has played for the Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys, and New York Giants, expressed his concern on Tuesday’s episode of First Take.

I’m very concerned. Jordan Love is bad, and he’s probably going to get his coach fired if he can’t get it fixed.

Chris Canty said

Though Stephen A. Smith thought that Canty was a bit too harsh on his take, Canty doubled down on why he thought so. He pointed out that while Love has signed an extension that will keep him in Wisconsin for some time, LaFleur hasn’t been given one in the offseason. Therefore, any miscues from the quarterback will reflect on the coach, and it will be the coach who’s shown the door.

Every single facet of the football team is playing at a high level, except for the quarterback. And I’m not going to say that it’s squarely on Matt LaFleur, but he has some responsibility on all of that. But ultimately, what we know is the quarterback is going to be around because they just paid him $55 million a year. And so the reality of what we’re getting from Jordan Love is just not good enough.

The Green Bay Packers are clinging on to the last wildcard spot in NFC

The Green Bay Packers are determined to stay competitive, and GM Brian Gutekunst acknowledged that there’s now a clear sense of urgency; the time for simply being contenders is over; the team must start focusing on winning championships. But the Packers aren’t it this year, or for the time being, they need to focus on making the playoffs.

The Packers now have a 68.7% chance of making the playoffs, down from 81.0% before kickoff against the Eagles, according to ESPN’s Football Power Index. Their odds of winning the NFC North also dropped sharply, falling from 51.4% to just 28.4%.

The Packers are now 5-3-1 with eight games in hand. Of the eight games, five are against division franchises. They play twice against the Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings, and once against the Lions. Apart from the Denver Broncos, the remaining two games are against two teams with a losing record. The Packers, if they don’t fumble, have an easy route to the playoffs.

The Packers’ advantage at this stage is also the division of separation between them and the rest of the NFC. The San Francisco 49ers are the strongest, trailing the Packers by just 0.011. The Niners have lost one too many players to injuries, and they have at least three opponents with winning records in the remaining weeks, meaning a bounce back won’t be easy.
