There’s so much up in the air about Chris Jericho‘s future in wrestling. With the year coming to a close, his AEW contract is reportedly up soon. And while he’s heavily rumored to plot a WWE return in 2026, he has yet to receive an offer from his erstwhile workplace.
The interest is very much there, so to speak. Jericho’s being backed for a pretty different role if he does go back to WWE. Speaking to TMZ Sports, Mark Henry stated that ‘Y2J’ should be given a prominent spot on the WWE creative team.
‘The World’s Strongest Man’ hailed the Canuck as the most versatile and innovative wrestler in the last two decades or so. Henry noted that people hold Jericho’s opinions in high regard, and he would fit in like a glove in the creative setting of WWE because he’s not a tyrant.
Chris Jericho should be a high up at WWE creative. He’s probably the most versatile and innovative guy that has wrestled in the last 20 years. He’s recreated himself so many times and made so much money that’s it’s ridiculous. People respect him and they value his opinion.………

The former AEW talent scout urged to have Jericho in that role in a heartbeat if it’s remotely possible. Henry underscored how there’s an influx of young talent in WWE these days, with several stars getting called up to the main roster. The erstwhile US Olympian called the former AEW World Champion a squeaky wheel, and as they say, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
A few months ago, a report from WrestleVotes emphasized that WWE was significantly interested in having Jericho back whenever his AEW deal was up. The outlet added that an agreement between the veteran wrestler and WWE is expected to be completed when the time comes.
Several other wrestling promotions are also in the race alongside WWE to lure ‘Y2J’ into their respective companies, which include both national and international ones.
Tony Khan breaks the silence over Chris Jericho’s absence from AEW
It’s been over 7 months since Chris Jericho‘s last appearance on AEW television. The fans haven’t exactly figured out why he’s been off programming for that long. It’s best to hear straight from the horse’s mouth than to make stuff up, as always. Having said that, Tony Khan was asked about The Demo God’s current relationship with his promotion by Ariel Helwani during their latest sit-down interview.

Khan started off by stating the obvious that Jericho’s been a key asset to the launch of All Elite Wrestling, while adding that he’s had some great matches even in 2025 with the likes of Bandido. The AEW CEO revealed that he recently wished ‘Y2J’ on his 55th birthday.
When asked by Helwani if he’s going to be back, Khan said he can’t speak to that, but he’d love to have him and that the door is always open for the ‘Lionheart’ to walk back in. Helwani went a step further and asked the AEW head honcho about the reason behind Jericho’s ongoing hiatus.
Khan responded by saying it’s mostly about working out his dates. The Jacksonville Jaguars executive also refrained from commenting in regards to Chris Jericho’s contractual status with AEW but regurgitated that he was absolutely hopeful for his return.

"I love having Chris in AEW, and he’s always welcome. I absolutely hope we’ll get Chris back in. A star like Chris Jericho—you negotiate a certain number of dates—and Chris has always been great about being one of those… pic.twitter.com/uqMWA6Jrrf
Khan emphasized that a star like the Fozzy lead vocalist had negotiated a certain number of dates with AEW, and it’s playing out in the moment. Not only does Tony Khan want to see the 55-year-old stay with AEW, the company’s EVPs, viz., The Young Bucks, have also followed suit. Speaking on the Adam’s Apple, Nick Jackson termed Jericho as the founding father of AEW.
“He (Chris Jericho) is a founding father, so of course we want him to stay.

We’re not sure where he’s at headspace-wise right now. He’s on a break and trying to figure it out on his own. Sometimes, you have to let a wrestler like that figure it out on his own.”

Nick admitted that he’s not sure about what’s going on in Jericho’s head right now and that he’s likely figuring out his next step. Expressing their love for ‘Y2J’, the former AEW tag team champs underscored the importance of a wrestler like Jericho’s stature taking a break to decide what’s next for him.
